My name is Blake, today it's my 15th birthday I'm celebrating with my family, my dad is a Pokémon Ranger, his partner is a majestic Dragonite, he told me all the stories of his life as a ranger, he told me how Dragonite was his first Pokémon and how he trained it since it was a Dratini. His courage has made me aspire to become like him, but I don't want to be a ranger I want to be a Pokémon trainer! I want to defeat the Pokémon league and become the greatest trainer to have ever lived! But first I need a Pokémon, which is no easy task since I refuse to have a gift partner I need to catch my own Pokémon for it to fully respect me
"Dad?" "Yes son" he replied, "Can I see one of the pokeballs that you always carry around with you?" I asked, he replied "I'll tell you what son, happy birthday you can have this and catch a Pokémon that you think is a worthy partner, but make sure you make the right decision because it's a permanent one" I looked at the pokeball that I now held in my hand, the bottom was a solid white but the top was a translucent red, I couldn't wait to catch my own Pokémon. Later that night I was sitting in my room talking to my friend Paul on my pokegear explaining how I got the pokeball for my birthday, he was just as excited as I was, "why don't you come visit me in Viridian city tomorrow? We can both go into the forest and catch you your first Pokémon!" I was excited about the idea and agreed.
That night I couldn't stop thinking about what Pokémon I should catch, at first I was adamant that Caterpie would be an excellent partner then I decided that it wasn't a good idea because Butterfree is way to girly, "maybe a Pikachu would be a good partner" I thought but then remembered what Paul had said to me once "Pikachu are really rare in the wild and extremely difficult to catch especially for a beginner" damn deciding on a Pokémon is hard work I thought "I really need to think about this a bit" after a little while of thinking I dosed off, but now I would be ready to take on the challenge of catching and raising my very first Pokémon!
I woke to find my father sitting having breakfast, he was speaking to my mother about how he had the day off today, then he looked up the stairs and saw me coming down "oh good morning Blake, how are you feeling this morning?" he asked "good" I replied, I sat next to him and joined in the discussion, they were talking about dad and Dragonite going to the academy for a while to train with some of the other rangers, I was surprised by this because I knew ranger training meant that he would be away from us for a few weeks, which confused me because I knew dad hating being away from us for only a few days. My dad then changed the subject to what I had planned for the day which I replied to by telling him of my plan to go and catch my first Pokémon with Paul "just remember Blake, you only have one shot at catching a Pokémon with the ball, if the Pokémon escapes, the pokeball will break and I wont be able to replace it until I get back from training with Dragonite" I told him that I understood and that I would be super careful.
Later that day I watch Dragonite prepare for the flight to the academy which was all the way in the Hoenn region I gave Dragonite and dad a hug and watched them fly away into the distance. I heard my name get called from the kitchen "Blake dear I've packed your bag for you, I added some water in because I know its really hot outside and it's a long walk to get to viridian city" I replied "thanks mum I'm going to put in my pokeball and my pokegear so you can contact me if I'm needed" I grabbed my bag and ran out the front door I looked back at the house I grew up in and smile as my mum stood at the door like she always does when I leave the house, with a quick wave I ran towards viridian city looking forward to catching my first Pokémon!
The road was hot and my shirt was sticking to my skin, so as some relief I started to think of things I would need for my journey, firstly I would need money and to get money I have to enter a tournament, which could also help me get into the Pokémon league, because all kids new that you had to prove yourself to be accepted into the gym leader challenge, because they didn't want rookies going after a whole eight badges facing tough opponents around every corner the very thought excited me I couldn't wait to win my first three tournaments so I could register for the challenge, also I would need a human companion to travel with me, as it is suggested in the handbook because have a human friend means if you get in a bad situation you can work together to get out of it, I just cant wait to get my first Pokémon I wonder what it will be?
