Chapter 1

"This is another original called All Too Well." I say into the microphone of the small café I work in. I started to strum on the guitar I've had for years, looking out into the crowd that was practically the same everyday, a few new faces thrown in there.

I knew they didn't come for me, I'd be foolish not to recognize that. They came for Martin's soup, because most of the crowd was over sixty. I didn't mind though, a few of the lady's would bring me brownies every now and then.

I'm in college to become a songwriter, and somewhere along the way I found a decent job that paid me to do what I love. So every weekday three to six I sit on an uncomfortable stool and play my guitar while sing for the people who are either talking, reading, or typing away on their laptops.

I finish the last song and start to put away my guitar as Martin comes out and starts to give me an applause with a chuckle.

"Great job darlin', see you tomorrow, but take this home for you and Chase." He says, handing me a tupperware full of soup to warm up.

Chase is my boyfriend. We've been dating since as long as I can remember. That's a lie, four years or so. My sophomore year of high school, that's when we met, and now I'm just starting my sophomore year of college and we're still going strong.

"Thanks, Martin. Have a good night." I smiled and slung my guitar case strap over my shoulder. I waved to him before passing Elizabeth, an elderly lady who was a frequent.

"Hope you're having a good day." I called out to her with a smile, but instead of getting a short reply I get to hear what she's done all throughout her day and about how her grandkids are doing. I don't mind though, she was a sweet lady.

Five minutes later I got out of the conversation and left, heading to the shared apartment of Chase and I's. It was nothing fancy, but what do you expect for a couple our age with only growing student loans.

Walking through the front door I called out that I was home, though it was obvious as I closed the door and it echoed through the small walls of our place. I walked into the bedroom and saw him laying on the bed.

Chase didn't work in the late summer or fall. He claimed he didn't have time for it because of football, and I didn't push the subject, because he was pretty good at the sport.

"Hey, how was your day?" I asked with a smile as I put my guitar away and put my purse on the small chair in our bedroom. I sat down next to him. His eyes were closed, but I could tell he was awake by the way he was patting his fingers on the sheets repeatedly.

"Not now, babe. I'm tired and have a killer headache." He sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose with his thumb and pointer finger.

I frowned and sat up a bit, "Oh, I'll go make some dinner and see if that'll help." I hummed and stood from the bed. I made his favorite, steak and stuffing. It didn't seem to please him, though. After dinner he just went straight back to the bedroom and turned on the television.

I joined him and tried to start a few conversations like always, and like always it was shut down with him yelling at the television or if I was lucky maybe even at me, "Did you see that pass!" He laughed and shook his head.

I rolled my eyes as let out a huff, getting under the sheets. It wasn't even nine yet, but I was already sick of hearing him talk football, and tomorrow was registration for classes, and I wanted to get there early.

The next morning when I woke up Chase was already gone for his early practice, and I felt bad for the fact I was kind of glad, I didn't have to worry about any of his antics. I got dressed into nice jeans and a burgundy shirt with a gold necklace. I kept my makeup simple while letting my straight blonde hair fall naturally.

When I arrived to register for classes it was packed. I guess everyone had the idea of going right away. I looked over the lines and got in the shortest one possible, keeping my arms crossed to my chest as I waited silently. I looked over after hearing a group of loud boys, only to see Chase is one of them. I smiled over at him and waved, and we made eye contact but he said nothing. I hated when he acted like he was too cool for me around his friends, I guess it was a boy thing.

I was just curious to how he was already done at practice, he told me his practice got over at ten and it was just past nine. They must have got done early today.

"Miss, hello?" I was brought back down from my thoughts as I hear the lady at the table getting my attention, as it was my turn.

"Oh! I'm sorry." I shook my head and started to talk to her. She gave me a few forms to go sign at a separate table and I thanked her, walking over to do just that.

In the middle of filling out the paper a man with an apparent accent started speaking, and I looked up to find his green eyes staring down at me. I didn't pay attention to one word he was saying because I was too focused in his features, and I regretted that after I was at loss of words.

"I'm so sorry, what were you saying?" I asked and stood up a bit straighter. I felt so small under his tall figure.

"I said I haven't seen you in the music class before." He cleared his throat. I looked over at his papers, and sure enough he was in it as well.

"Oh well, I'm a sophomore and I came in undecided last year." I explained with a small smile. That wasn't really the case. I knew exactly what I wanted to be last year, and the year before that. My parents just said if I went to college for that they weren't paying. It took me a year to decide I would pay on my own then, it was my dream after all.

"Oh, I see. I'm a Senior, last year unfortunately. You'll love there music program. I'm Harry by the way, nice to meet you.." His eyes made its way down to my paper, "Adessa." He hummed and sent me a smile before he straightened his papers and walked off.

My lips parted, trying to sink in what just happened and who that was, but it was almost pointless, he was gone and this school was big enough I could very well never see him again.
