The story begins with the 16-year-old Elizabeth Black, who lives her life in west Oakland. Together with her mother Theresa and her little brother Jimmy she lives in a small house. Lizzy (Elizabeth's nickname) room is not particularly large. As a bed, she has a mattress and a wardrobe as she uses a small chest of drawers. She helps a family friend who owns a ranch. In return, she has a kind of care horse, which she named Evrelle / Eva. Since Lizzy has found Eva, the two are inseparable. Her Wolf Ruuqo, also found by Lizzy, follows her every step.
