I had seen the boy before. He was hard to miss. He was short and had brown hair that was always in his eyes.

I was bored one day so I decided to scare him. I knew Mr Crepsley would skin me alive if he found out ,but for once I didn't care.

I snuck up behind the boy a howled at the top of my lungs. He screamed and turned around to see me howling...with laughter.

He started to laugh too and soon we were in fits on the ground.

I put my hand out for him to shake. "Hi, I'm Canis Black," I grinned. He shook,"Sam Grest," he said.

I showed him around the Cirque. He pointed towards Mr Crepsley's tent and asked what was in there.

I grinned. "My mentor," I told him. He looked confused. "He teaches me magic tricks and stuff," I explained.

"Can I meet him?" he asked excitedly. I frowned. "Not right now," I said, "He's sleeping."

Sam looked disappointed but didn't argue. I introduced him to Darren and Evra.

I was worried about Darren. He was pale and thin. He needed blood badly. I sighed and put on a happy face, burying my emotions and losing myself in a game of tag.

Sam said that we had a great life. I told him I'd rather have my family than be here but he said that his family ignored him.

He had to leave at around six. I made up for lost time by feeding the wolf- man.

At exactly 9:00 Mr Crepsley awoke and it was time for lessons.

I was distracted and Mr Crepsley was less than pleased. When he finally dismissed us Darren and I talked about Sam.

I wanted to bring up blood but decided not to ruin Darren's good mood.

Had I known what would happen next maybe I would have forgotten about Sam Grest and gone on with my life.
