Chapter 38

Late Night Meeting

Carlisle and I were running through the forest, when he started to talk. "Are you sure you are okay though? "  He asked, the concern he was feeling throughout the day showing.

I chuckled."It wasn't 5 minutes ago that you told Esme not to do this." 

"I am just making sure, however I truly see something is different about you. I don't know what you did while you were away, but it definitely helped you."  I saw his imagination running wild as he thought about what I had been up to. Killing vampires, eating ice cream, hunting were the ones I cought. The idea of going to Bella popped into his mind too, but only for a second. Understandable. Even for me it was unbelieveable that after that nightmare I went to her for confort."You are not going to tell me right?"  He asked, just missing my thoughts about my wonderful day.

I smiled. "Nope."  I said popping the p, enjoying how the curiosity was killing him.

"Do you need any pills tonight? "  He asked carefully and changing the tone entirely.

"No, I don't think so."  I replied hesitantly. It's one thing to get through the night with Bella there, but alone is a whole new deal. 

As we split up, my mind wondered to the upcoming night. Will I really be able to do it? Sleep peacefully without seeing my Bella? I knew I had seen her 2 hours ago, but still. My fear from the nightmares came back and I couldn't calm down. 

I started to pick up my pace, an idea coming to my mind. I could easily give her a quick visit. But if she sees that as clingy? Or needy? I slowed my pace, my confidence crumbling. I should be able to survive without her. But she did seem sad when we parted ways, so maybe she wouldn't mind? It's possible that she may even be happy? I wanted to see her, isn't that enough reason for a visit?

As I was thinking I almost didn't notice that I arrived. She was still up which was fortunate. Washing the dishes as she said good night to Charlie who must had been tired after a double shift.

As I saw Charlie's light go out I barked a little to catch Bella's attention. She almost dropped a plate in surprise. She ran to the window with wide eyes and looked out, searching for me. I straightened my posture, my ears twitching from excitement. When her eyes landed on me I wiggled my tail. Her smile made the earlier doubts from my mind disappear. She quickly put on a coat and stepped outside into the chilly night. As she neared me I shuffled my feet, trying to let my energy out a bit. As she reached me I lowered my head and she hugged me the same why like at the meadow.

"Okay, now I get it."  I heard Carlisle astonished voice suddenly in my head. I completely forgot about him. From the suprise I pulled my head away from Bella, but only for a moment."I am glad that you are together, finally. However I am still curious how you ended up like this. After all, you were away less then a day and after that nightmare... I am proud of you, Son."  I was about to answer when Bella spoke up.

"Can you phase? Or you don't have any clothes?" She said looking at my legs, searching for them. I whimpered in disappointment, because I already knew that I didn't have any. She noticed it too and sighed. "How come you are here?" A shy smile graced her lips as she tried to have a conversation alone. 

I pushed my cold nose into her neck and she pulled her shoulders up, giggling. "Oh you came here for me right?" She said and I nodded and licked her face. "Jesus Edward! You must do that don't you?" She asked and rubbed her face. I just gave out something similar to laughing and nodded. She rolled her eyes, but hugged me again. I rumbled at the feeling. Not purred, not even close. Then Bella scratched behind my ear.

Maybe there was some purring.

But then I froze. I heard steps and I knew Bella heard it too because she looked at the direction where it came from. I was tense until I heard the thoughts.

"I thought I would help you out."  I heard Carlisle. He was planning to gave me his clothes, so I could talk to Bella. "I tried to reach you, but you were distracted. "  He chuckled.

I huffed and saw Bella stepping behind me, expecting me to protect her. Her trust in me warmed my heart.

Carlisle slowly came through the bushes, trying not to scare Bella. She stepped closer to me and grabbed my fur in fear. I looked at her and pushed my nose gently against her forehead, trying to calm her down. She watched as the big, alpha came into our view. She gasped a little. Carlisle had his mouth full of his clothes, but that did nothging to make his appearence less massive. He put them down for me and I went to pick them up but Bella didn't let me go. I looked at her with wild eyes trying to say that she shouldn't worry. I would never leave her when there is danger. She must have seen some of it in my eyes as she let me go or It could just have been that Carlisle stepped back a bit and layed down. He didn't really look threatening with his eyes closed, his big head resting on his front paws.

"Edward." She whispered as I left to change.
