Chapter 10

When I got to the spot, Aaron was already there.

“Hey there,” he said when he saw me, wrapping his arms around me and leaning in for a kiss.

As much as I wanted to kiss him, I pulled away and sat down on a wooden crate.

“Hey,” I said flatly. I was sure that Aaron had already heard about how Carly wanted to beat me up, so I didn’t feel the need to explain it to him.

Aaron frowned and sat down on a crate across from me.

“What’s wrong babe?” He said, looking worried. I couldn’t tell if he was being sincere or not.

I just looked at him and said, “Who’s Carly Reynolds?”

As soon as I said this, Aaron groaned and put his head in his hands. That wasn’t a very good sign.

“She’s nobody,” he mumbled, giving me the shortest answer possible.

Aaron didn’t say anything after that stupid excuse of a reply, and I started to get the feeling that he was expecting me to just say “okay” and change the subject like a good little girl, as I was sure that all of his ex-girlfriends had done when an uncomfortable topic came up.

Well, I wasn’t even sure if I was his current girlfriend, and there was no way in that I was going to act like just another ex-girlfriend of his.

“Well then she’s a nobody that people are treating like a somebody,” I said, annoyed.

Aaron just shrugged and kept his head in his hands, so I tried something different.

“Also, she’s a nobody that slapped me across the face last night.”

That certainly got Aaron’s attention, and it made me start to think that maybe he hadn’t heard about everything that had happened.

“She slapped you?” he exclaimed, getting angry.

I didn’t feel like I needed to say it again, so I simply folded my arms across my chest and nodded.

“Right before I punched her,” I said casually. I knew that Aaron would find out about that little detail sooner or later, and honestly, I kind of had wanted to be the one to tell him. I was actually sort of proud of it.

Aaron was on board with me now, and he was pretty much up to date on what had happened. Almost.

“What the hell did Carly slap you for?” He asked, confused.

I just rolled my eyes and said curtly “Because apparently, I've been ‘fooling around with her boyfriend’. Now, please clear this up for me, because the only person that I’ve been doing anything with recently is you.”

Then I just sat there, with my arms folded across my chest, leg crosses, and waited as I watched Aaron take a deep breath, getting ready to explain everything.

“Carly and I hung out a lot earlier in the year,” he said, “and, well, things got pretty heated, and we started fooling around. I know that she’s a freshman, and I know that I shouldn’t have, but…I slept with her. I was really drunk, and so was she.”

An absolutely shocked look from me made Aaron pause for a moment, but when I didn’t say anything – I was speechless, for once – he continued.

“Anyways, since that…thing…happened, Carly has gone crazy, and she’s convinced that we’re ‘in a relationship’, but I swear to God, Sammi, we’re not. I don’t date freshman.”

“But you’ll sleep with them,” I clarified.

Aaron shot me an exasperated look and said, “God Sammi, it was only one time, and I was really drunk…and really stupid.”

I just shrugged. I already knew that Aaron had sex a lot – hell, I couldn’t even be mad about it. We were by no means ‘together’. I just didn’t like that him having sex with Carly – no matter when he did it – was causing me all this stress and drama.

I didn’t say anything to Aaron, even though I knew that he wanted me to. Instead, I just sat there and stared at him. I could tell that this cold silence was driving him crazy, and eventually, he couldn’t take it anymore.

“Say something,” he begged, “please.”

I just shrugged. “What do you want me to say?” I asked, “I only wanted to know why Carly had gone bat-shit crazy and slapped me. I’m not mad at you or anything.”

Aaron relaxed, looking relieved.

“It’s not like I have any say in who you do what with,” I added, regretting that it came out more snippy and bitter than I intended.

Aaron raised his eyebrows and said, “Don’t you?”

Surprised, I grinned and said, “Do I?”

Aaron got up and walked over to me, and then he pulled me up with him. I wrapped my arms around him, putting my face on his chest,

“I’d say that you have a very big say in what I do,” Aaron whispered into my ear.

My only response was to bring my lips up to his.
