The next few weeks passed slowly. I’ve barely spoken to Draco since the night in the astronomy tower. It’s Monday, November 23rd. I unwillingly got up this morning and successfully made it through transfiguration and most of history. I tried my best to ignore Draco and tuning out Binns is pretty easy to do.

I doodled in my notebook during most of class. I even wrote myself a list.

Things to do today:

1.     Get up on time

2.     survive while avoiding Draco and Monica

3.     Go back to bed.

I closed my notebook when Binns walked past me in his ghostly way and sat up straight. I tried to listen to his lecture on a war between giants but he’s just too boring.

I closed my eyes at one point and rubbed my temples.

“Miss. Hailey, am I boring you?” I opened my eyes and looked at Binns who was standing right in front of my desk.

“No Sir. I’m just… tired.” I looked down and felt ashamed that I was so careless. I know better than to do that when a teacher is looking.

“Yes, I am indeed aware that the first task of Triwizard Tournament is tomorrow. But, you all must pay close attention… you will have an examination next week.” Everyone groaned but me. Tests were the one thing I was good at… but I’ve never taken a test on the history of magic. U.S. history is one thing, but this I’ve never done before. How hard could it be?

When the bell rang I finished scribbling down the last of the notes that were on the chalk board and grabbed my books. I’ve noticed that everyone here uses quills to write while I use normal writing utensils- pens and pencils.

“Natalie?” A soft voice said my name from behind me.

I spun slowly on my heel and kept my eyes on the floor.

“I meant what I said. I’m sorry. If it’s what you want… we can forget this ever happened. You can go back to hating me and I can go back to thinking all muggle borns are scum.” I could tell he was smiling although I didn’t look at him.

“No.... no, Draco. I’m not going to forget it. I just think you see yourself as something that you’re not. I’ve got to go. I have to study.”

“Wait, can’t we at least… try? I keep my promises, Natalie. And I promise you, I will always be the best friend I can be. Please?” My head snapped up and I looked at him carefully. He didn’t seem to be playing a prank but I wasn’t exactly sure. Why would he want to be friends with me anyway?

“I’ll let you know.” He didn’t look convinced so I gave him a small smile. “I’ll think about it. I really will.” I reassured him.

“Good, because my life has been horrendously dreadful lately.” I giggled a little bit and walked with him to the great hall. As we entered he asked if I would sit with him and his friends today.

“I don’t know Draco. That Pansy girl might get upset. I think she really likes you.” I frowned and kept myself from meeting Pansy’s glare.

“Forget her. She’s just an inconvenience.” He smiled without showing his pure white teeth.

“I have to talk to Monica. Maybe you could sit with Kay, Aly, Lucinda, and I after?” I bit my lip, awaiting his response.

“Why not?” He sighed and once again his cool, fresh breath fell down on me. I grinned and told him I’d come get him when I was done talking to Monica.
