I had always loved Truro. The fact that it was a breezy, seaside town made everything so relaxing. There was never a day when I was too stressed or tense. I've always been so happy. This town seemed to always make my problems go away. Like when my ex, Stephen, and I broke up. Or when my bestfriend and I got into a heated argument, but lets not get into that. The coolness of the air and sound of the waves against the sandy shores relaxed me; it all made me forget about those problems.
Everyday seemed to be a good day. Until I met a boy, Caleb Genis. In the beginning of our friendship, it was great. We laughed together, we went bowling together, we had get together's all of the time. But then I heard some talk on the streets.
That's when I realized: everyone knew about this boy and his problems. But I knew nothing. He had told me nothing about his true self.
He was the type of person to tell you exactly what you wanted to hear. Just so that he could get what he wanted. He could have fooled anyone.
He did just that; fooled everyone he ever came into contact with. Made them feel like they were worth something; made them feel loved.
But while he was being malicious, he was covering up just how callous he really was.
I'm Lena Edwards.. and this is the story about how I fell in love with the most taciturn person in Truro; a physco named Caleb Genis.

"Did you know, that if you stick your thumb on the roof of your mouth it will make a brain freeze go away?" My best friend had asked me this question and I completely ignored her. I was more focused on the boy across the library. I watched as he opened a book and put a small bag of something inside of it.
He quickly moved away and I watched as some other person came and opened up that same book. He removed the bag and shoved it into his pocket. I didn't know what it is, but there were many possibilities. I had one main assumption.
Drugs.
"Lena! Are you listening to me!?" I turned my heads towards Bianca and nodded. She smiled, "thought so," and continued to talk about brain freezes and the many ways you could get rid of them.
The boy from before had gone back to the bookshelf and pulled out that book once again. "B?" I said. I heard a 'hmm?' .
"Who is he?" I nodded my head towards the boy, keeping my eyes on him. I looked back at Bianca as she shook her head. She didn't even look up to see who it was.
A loud thunk filled the library and everyone's heads came up and looked towards the source.
The boy had slammed the book on the floor and had started yelling, "No!" and "I want my money!" over and over. The librarian hurried his way, "Young man. Pick that book up right now and calm down!" That boy left the book in the place where he had thrown it and ran out of the library.
After that, I never saw him again.

There were many days when I walked the hallways of school and thought that I saw that familiar, angry face. Yah know, the boy from the library.
I had heard some talk about what had happen, but I still couldn't get a name. He had said that he wanted his money.. and that was a clear sign that what I had seen in the library was indeed a drug deal.
I knew the boy who had taken the bag from the book, I knew his name. I could find him and figure out who that boy was. Or would that be creepy? Or stalkerish?
A few days after that incident, I walked into my Government class. That's where I finally saw the boy. I chewed on my bottom lip and focused on him after I sat at my desk. I quickly looked away as I noticed his head shifting in my direction.
"Hayden," I looked at the girl sitting beside me, "who is that boy in the back? Do you know his name?" I asked what I thought was a simple question. She glared at me and then spoke in this dull, low voice, "That's Genis. Caleb Genis." I had heard that name before. Most of the things I heard about him were rumors about how he killed his grandparents and that's why there was a time in tenth grade where he disappeared.
But like I said, that was a rumor.
At the end of class when the bell rang, which signaled that is was the end of the day, I gathered my things and walked to the back of the class where Caleb was still sitting. "Hi," I said looking down at him, "I'm Lena and you look like you could use a friend." I smiled as he glanced up at me through his eyebrows.
He didn't seem like the type that talks, but I tried to keep a conversation with him anyways. "You're Caleb, right?" He finally looked at me and locked eye contact, "Yeah, I'm Caleb. Who are you again?"
"I'm Lena. Lena Edwards." Caleb stood and towered over me. He didn't seem this tall that day in the library. But maybe it's because he was farther away. "I think that you should text me, anytime." I took out a pen and held out my hand, waiting for his.
"You're gonna give your number to a total stranger?" I nodded and took his hand as he laid it out on mine. I wrote, "Lena's #" and then wrote my number underneath it.
"I'd love to stay and chat, Caleb, but I've gotta get going now." I stuck the pen back into my bag and headed towards the door, "I'm expecting a text from you," I said, right before I walked out into the hallway.

It didn't take long for me to receive a text from an unknown number. Just four hours.
I texted the number back, "Hey, is this Caleb?" There was no name that indicated who it was from and clearly it wasn't someone I knew. But it took a while to get a text back.
But when I finally got one, all it had said was, "yeah." I wasn't completely sure how to reply to that so I just said, "Took yah long enough (: " I never got a reply after that. It had gotten pretty late so I had just decided to go to bed.
I was really hoping to get to know this boy better. He seemed so lonely, so distraught. Maybe if we became friends, I could take his mind away from the drugs. I could take his mind off of whatever he had going on, and turn him into a happy person. Because from the looks of it, he could use a little happiness in his life..
