"She knows she is supposed to be in the main building by eleven o'clock at the latest, and even that is frowned upon," Mason muttered angrily as he paced the lobby-type room in front of his own.

"Maybe she just lost track of time sir," a servant suggested to possibly calm Mason down.

"She can tell the time from the position of the moon in the sky. There is no reason for her to be late!"

I could hear them, from my spot outside the door to the floor Mason and I stayed on. He sounded pissed. No other words could better describe how Mason was acting, other than a two year old.

I sighed and thought about what could happen when I walked in.

1.) He yells at me and doesn't talk to me for the rest of the night.

2.) He greets me, happy that I am okay and not hurt.

... I think the second one is out of the picture. Yup, definitely the first one. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath before reaching for the doorknob and turning it.

As soon as the door opened, revealing the servant and Mason, both heads snapped in my direction. I could see the anger that filled his eyes. The air in the room was so thick, a knife could slice right through it. I was not ready for the chewing out that I was going to get. Maybe I should just leave and come back later. The thought sounded good to me, but as I turned around his voice echoed in my skull.

Stay. He needs you. He's scared.

I looked around but no one was near me. It was as if time had frozen because when I looked at Mason, he wasn't moving. His eyes were open wide, the veins in the side of his neck were clearly visible. His servant was standing still also; his face contorted as though he was about to sneeze, but it never came.

I blinked and that was it. Mason started yelling and the sound of the servants sneeze filled the room. I looked at them with confusion rolling into my mind like clouds at the beginning of a storm. The lightning resembled questions that I wished to be answered while the thunder was the mumbled answers I could not understand.

"Mason, calm down!" I screamed, squeezing my eyes shut, and suddenly the room was quiet.

When I opened them they flickered to the servant who stared at me with complete and utter shock. I then moved my attention to the dumbfounded Mason who stood there with his jaw hanging slack. They definitely did not expect that.

My eyes locked on Masons form and I saw the fire reignite in his eyes and the first thought that popped into my head was, oh boy...

"Mason..." I began but was quickly cut off.

"Don't you dare yell at me when you are the one who has broken the rules."

"I was just outside! I feel too cramped in here!"

"I don't care! In order to keep you safe, you must stay inside the buildings or inside the boundaries that mark the edge of the property."

I looked at him confused. Is he hinting at what I think he is?

"Yes, that's right Reagan. I know you have been going beyond the fence and into the woods. It's not safe out there. You could get hurt and then what would I do?"

"I can take care of myself Mason."

"Yea, because you definitely took care of yourself when Garrett raped you," he snapped.

I felt the prick of pain digging into my heart. My face was becoming hot and I felt the muscles of how Mason was acting. I could practically see him shaking in fear, or was that just anger?

"Mason..." I managed to whisper.

"Don't. Go to your room. I don't want to blow up on you. Just go and let me cool down."

I stared at him contemplating whether I should stand my ground or not. He kind of already went off on me, what more can he really do?

I opened my mouth but quickly shut it and secured my tongue behind a barrier of teeth. I felt my body unconsciously turn around on the heel of my left foot and then watched as the door came closer and closer. My hand reached out and took hold of the doorknob and turned the shiny metal to the right. The click and leeway that the door gave told me I was one step closer to leaving Mason alone with his servant and scariest of all, his thoughts.

As I made my way to my room, doing as I was told, I let everything that had happened roll over in my mind. As I went through each thought and answered them with the most logical answer I could find, one question still couldn't be answered.

How did everything around me freeze like that?

I thought harder and harder about it until the taste of pennies brought me back to my senses. I stopped and brought my hand up to my mouth. As soon as the tips of my fingers touched my tongue I felt a sticky warmth that definitely wasn't saliva. I let my hand receded from my face and my eyes caught sight of a deep crimson color that rested on the tips of my fingers.

My eyes widened and fear shot through me. What the hell...? Why am I bleeding?
