Chapter 1

*Kacey’s POV*

Growing up on the rich side of town had its perks, it also had many problems. One of the many problems is your parents are probably never home, so what’s the point of paying all that money for a big fancy house? That had been my question since I was 8 years old. “We’re leaving! We left $300 in our bedroom! If you need anything it’s there! See you a few days!” Mom yelled. You see, my mom is a famous lawyer. She gets all kinds of promotions and cases. My father is a world renown surgeon.

“Okay! Have fun in Paris!” I yelled back. They were taking a few days off to go on a second honeymoon. After they left I decided to go over to a friends house. I grabbed my phone and headed out the door. “Hey Stan, I’m going to a friend’s house. You don’t need to stay, if you don’t want too” I told Stan, the butler, on my way out.

“Have fun Miss. Kacey” he smiled and took his gloves off. I gave him a small smile and walked down the street to Bella’s house.

“Whale Penis you made it!” Bella exclaimed when I walked in. I let out a small laugh.

“Yes, I did” I chuckled. I walked in and went to the kitchen. “Where’s your grandma?” I asked. Bella’s parents died in a boating accident and she moved to England with her grandma.

“It’s bingo night” Bella giggled. I rolled my eyes and opened the fridge.

“When was the last time you went to the grocery store?” I asked and took out a carrot.

“We go every Saturday, which is tomorrow, so calm down” she scolded. I put my hands up.

“Sorry! Just asking” I smiled slightly and sat down on one of the spinny stools. “Is Lillie coming over?” I asked. As soon as I did Lillie came rushing through the door.

“Oh my god! I ran all the way over here!” she said as she tried to catch her breath. “I had to get out of my house. They won’t stop fighting! It’s unbearable!” she exclaimed. The thing about Lillie’s parents is, they hate each other. They’re married, but they cannot stand each other. They won’t get a divorce either.

“Why won’t they just get divorced? My mom could do the paperwork” I suggested. Lillie shot me a look.

“We’ve tried that, remember? I was grounded for a month! They just won’t get a divorce! I think it’s because of the money” Lillie smiled. I didn’t know why she did but she smiled. I gave her a look of confusion. “My family loves money, and so do I. Which is why I got a job” she gave us her signature sassy face and opened the fridge. “God bloody damn it Bella! Go to the bloody grocery store!” Lillie screamed and ate a carrot.

“We’re going tomorrow! You both need to calm down!” Bella laughed at us.

“Bella! I’m home! I won tonight! I got big money!” Bella’s grandma, Veronica, yelled as she entered the house.

“Good job, grandma! I’m going to go over to Kacey’s house tonight!” she yelled back. I shrugged and got up.

“I guess we’re going to my house” I said and started walking to the door. We started walking and then Bella stopped.

“Hey Kacey, I bet you can’t cartwheel the rest of the way home” she smirked.

“Is that a dare, Miss Bella?” I smirked and stopped walking. I turned so I was facing her. She gave me a look and smirked back at me.

“Why yes, yes it is” she laughed. Lillie groaned and kept walking.

“You guys are retarded” Lillie laughed and kept walking. I laughed and started doing the cartwheels. Lillie was the first one there. I was second, even though I was doing cartwheels.

“i did it!” I smiled as I stood at the door. Bella smiled and hugged me.

“I had faith in you” she laughed and we went inside. I walked with the girls to my bedroom. There was a note taped to the headboard of my bed.

‘I went home a little early, I left some shrimp scampi in the fridge for you -Stan’

“Looks like we’re alone all night” I smiled knowing exactly what we were going to do.

“Lil, you got the basement! I’ll get the main floor and Kacey’s got the upstairs!” Bella yelled from the kitchen. We were going to try and find any secret passage ways we hadn’t found yet. It was a tradition to find at least one when my parents went on trips. I went upstairs and Lillie went to the basement. Bella was already on the main floor.

“Guys! I think I found something that will change our lives forever!” Lillie yelled from the basement. Bella and I ran as fast as we could down the stairs. We ran over to her and she pointed out the small plywood strip in the laundry room.

“We need a hammer and maybe some eye protection” I said and went into the tool box we had by the dryer.

“Eye condoms!” Bella yelled. We all burst out laughing and couldn’t stop. “Guys it’s not even that funny!” Bella kept laughing. I laughed and nodded.

“Yeah but you said eye condoms” Lillie said as she tried to catch her breath. I brought the hammer over and started pulling the nails out of the board.

“I wonder if it actually is a secret passageway” Bella wondered out loud.

“Let’s find out” I laughed as I pulled the board off the wall. There was a little opening in the wall. “Oh god, that smells horrible” I made a disgusted face and climbed into the hole in the wall. The girls followed me in.

“Oh wow, this is amazing!” Lillie gasped. I felt along the walls and found a lightswitch. “Oh my god Kace! I didn’t know this was even in your house! It’s like a secret lair!” Lillie seemed to be amazed at the small room. We all started walking around and looking at the objects in the room.

“I don’t think my parents know about this room” I said as I looked at the pictures on the walls.

“Do you think this is from the people who lived here before you?” Bella asked. I shrugged and looked at more of the knick-knacks. Lillie was over looking at some paintings when she screamed loudly.

“Oh my god Lil?! What is it?!” I asked and ran over to her. She was speechless as she pointed to one of the paintings. I looked down at the painting and my eyes widened. “We need to get out of here” I spoke firmly. We all crawled out of the small room. I boarded up the room again so we never had to go back.

“What was on that painting?” Bella asked. Lillie shook her head and started crying.

“We just need to get out of this house” Lillie cried. I grabbed her hand and we ran upstairs. We got outside my house and sat in my driveway. “I didn’t know what that meant, but it scared the living shit out of me” Lillie said and wiped her tears away. I patted her back and got on my bike.

“Come on” I said, they followed suit on got on the bikes we had stashed at my house. We rode out of Nottingham and into what some call The Projects. The Projects were where the average people lived. People from Nottingham never really went into The Projects. Wealthy parents often told stories of The Projects, such as, the people were rude and would do anything to take advantage of you.

“Why are we going out of the city gates? We could get in so much trouble” Lillie squeaked. She was always the good one, never wanting to do anything wrong.

“There’s nothing wrong with the people out here. No one knows why it’s called The Projects. To me it’s just Cambridge” Bella said as we locked our bikes to the gate. We climbed over it and hopped down.

“What if we get caught?” Lillie spoke softly as we walked through the alleys. I rolled my eyes and kept walking. We kept walking through the town. “What if we get raped?” Lillie gasped.

“Shut the fuck up, Lillie! We’re gonna be fi-, AHH!” I cut myself off with a scream as I saw him.
