Chapter 11
Half an hour later, I left our spot and walked towards where the classrooms all were. I had talked to Aaron about everything, and I was felling really happy – maybe even happier than I should have felt – that he wasn’t dating Carly. I was glad that everything that had been coming out of her mouth was all just a big lie.
First period was almost over already, so I didn’t bother going there – I was pretty sure that Mr. Gray still wouldn’t want me in his class right now anyways. From what I had heard, he was still pretty pissed off about the…accident…that had happened the other day. Oh, well. I couldn’t please everybody.
I walked towards my second period class, which was math. Laurane didn’t have this class with me, because she was in pre-calculus. Laurane was super smart, taking senior math classes, while I was taking Algebra, which was a freshman class – it was my second time taking it, seeing as I failed it last year.
However, our friends Mia and Devon did have Algebra with me – they weren’t too good at math, either.
Mia and Devon were dating, and they had been for the past two years. It seemed like forever, and I didn’t know what would happen if they ever broke up. They were just perfect for each other.
Mia and Devon were completely in love, which I found out they were making pretty obvious to everyone in the classroom when I walked in, by making out in the back of the room.
I walked up to them and scowled half-heartedly.
“You know, kissing in public is tacky,” I said jokingly.
Devon flipped me off, and Mia ignored me completely. They were too busy locking lips to listen to me right now.
I rolled my eyes and sat down next to Mia, trying to ignore both the teacher and Mia and Devon’s cuteness.
Mrs. Ott, our Algebra teacher, half-heartedly told people to be quiet so that she could start class. Only then did Mia and Devon stop kissing, and they started to actually pay attention to the world around them.
“You’d know all about kissing in public, wouldn’t you, Sammi?” Devon asked, raising one eyebrow. Mia laughed, but I just shrugged. It was true, I did have quite a reputation of doing stuff with guys, and if I was drunk, you would be sure to see me making out with people in public.
“Hey, I never said that I was classy, either,” I replied, defending myself.
Mia snorted and said, “You got that right.”
That little comment caused me to playfully shoved her, who then bumped into Devon, who in turn fell face-first onto the hard floor.
This caused Mrs. Ott to give us one of her ‘looks’, and she said in a stony voice, “Is there a problem back there?” She eyes Mia, Devon and I, looking at Mia and I giggling our asses off while Devon was laying on the floor, looking like he was feeling too lazy to actually get up.
“No Ma’am, there’s no problem,” Devon called out from his spot on the ground.
The way he said this, and the fact that he was saying it while he was laying down on the floor, was honestly really funny, and it made Mia and I giggle even harder.
Mrs. Ott seemed to actually find this amusing, because she smirked and said, “Then unless you would like to spend the remainder of the class collecting dust on the ground, please take your seat so I can start class.”
Devon saluted Mrs. Ott military style and clumsily got back into his seat. The whole class was cracking up now, along with Mrs. Ott, which I was grateful for.
Mrs. Ott had always been a pretty cool teacher, and she especially like Mia, Devon and I, which saved us – primarily me – from getting yet another trip down to Mrs. Bibich’s office.
Mrs. Ott continues with class, and Mia, Devon and I spend the remainder of it being as quiet and respectful as we always were, even though, let’s face it, wasn’t all that impressive in the first place.
After class, we walked outside, still laughing our asses off about what had happened during class.
“It was really all Devon’s fault,” I was saying, “he was the one who fell out of his chair in the first place.”
Devon rolled his eyes and said, “Only because I was pushed, or do you two girls not remember that little detail?”
I shrugged as a way of halfheartedly apologizing, which was what I usually did when I knew something was totally my fault, but it wasn’t a big enough of a deal – or it had turned out to be hilarious and fun, like what had just happened – to actually formally apologize for.
I started to look around for Laurane, but it was seeming like I wasn’t able to find her anywhere around me, so I decided to give up for now. I just said goodbye to Mia and Devon and went on to the rest of my classes.
