I hummed under my breath as I stirred the batter for the brownie concoction. My wooden spoon clanked against the shiny blue bowl and I inhaled the delicious scent emanating from the brownie mixture.

Music flowed from the iHome sitting on my kitchen countertop and I danced around to the beat. I guess I was so distracted by my brownie mixture that I didn’t hear footsteps come down the staircase and a tired body lean against the arch separating the kitchen from the living room.

“Allison what are you doing?” I turned to look over my shoulder and saw Elise standing in the archway of my kitchen, leaning her tired body against the arch.

“I…I couldn’t sleep.” I muttered nervously as I continued to stir the bowl of smooth brownie mix.

“I figured that, you only bake when you’re upset…what’s got you so upset? Is it being home again?” I shook my head.

“No, not exactly.” I sighed.

“It’s Tony isn’t it?” I bit my bottom lip. Hearing his name pulled at the broken heartstrings in my chest. I sniffled and shrugged.

“Is it because you’re going to have to finally tell him about Charlotte?”

“Elise he’s going to hate me so much.”

“Well he’s not allowed to, not after the way he ended things.”

“He had his dreams…I wasn’t going to stop him from pursuing them, look at how far he’s come.” I replied quietly.

“You’re too hard on yourself babe. But it’s not like he’s not going to want her, one look at that face and he’ll fall in love just like everybody else does. It’ll be okay.”

“She looks like him.” I smiled.

“I think she looks more like you.” Elise laughed and licked the spoon from the brownie batter.

“Hmm maybe but she acts just like him, with all her little mannerisms and personality alike. Do you think all the other guys will be okay with her?”

“Babe, the guys love you, they’re going to love your daughter too.” Even though Elise was trying to be reassuring I couldn’t help but feel nervous still. Tony would not be happy.

“Sorry for waking you up.” I apologized.

“Eh it’s alright, now that I’m up, let me help you. Midnight brownies!”

“Momma wake up.” I heard a melodic voice near my ear as small hands rubbed my cheeks. I blinked tiredly and yawned before seeing my beautiful daughter sitting on top of me. I smiled up at her and wrapped my arms around her and rolled over so we were both underneath the covers and I smothered her face in kisses and tickled her tummy. She squirmed around and kicked her legs happily.

“Momma that tickles! No more!” For a soon-to-be three year old, she’s quite good with her words. Her adorable voice made me smile and I blew one last raspberry on her cheek, the farting sound setting her off with more giggles.

“I love you my little love bug.”

“I love you too momma, Tia Elise made us bweakfast! And she said my Tios are coming over!” My eyes widened and I immediately pushed the blankets off.

“What!?” I scooped up Charlotte and ran downstairs. Elise was making a huge breakfast spread and my jaw dropped.

“Elise what the fuck are you doing!?” I whispered harshly after setting Charlotte down to go run off in the living room.
