Tony was hesitant but followed me. We walked up the stairs together but before I could open the door Tony stopped me, grabbing my hand in his and he turned me to face him.

“What’s wrong Tony?” I inquired.

“She’s going to hate me.”

“What? No she isn’t.”

“Yes she is, she’s going to hate me for not being there—“

“Tony she wants to meet you, she asked about you last night when I was reading her a bedtime story. She’s going to love you. Everything will be okay, I promise.” I smiled reassuringly.

Tony still looked nervous and I gently cupped his face with my empty hand and Tony leaned into the touch almost immediately. He shut his eyes and absorbed the old familiar feelings and I stroked his slightly stubbly jawline gently with the pad of my soft thumb.

“You can do this.” He nodded and opened his eyes, releasing a breath.

“Now come on.” I opened the door and we slowly walked in. She was still bundled up cutely, her lantern still going and I grinned before I pushed Tony forward carefully.

“What do I do?” Tony mouthed.

“Just do what feels right.” I encouraged. He looked panicked for a moment before turning to look at her. He sighed and crouched down again so he was level with her bed and one of his large, tattooed hands immediately began to rub her back in slow circles.

“Charlie…wake up babygirl…it’s time to wake up…” Good, he was starting off great. Charlotte hummed tiredly and her eyes slowly opened, staring into the identical ones of Tony’s. She smiled at him in confusion, her sleepy grin lazy and her eyes squinting, her long lashes gently brushing her face. Tony’s smile softened even more but grew wider as he continued to rub her back.

“There are those beautiful eyes…good morning Charlie.” She yawned cutely before wiggling her little, lightly freckled button nose that was a match to mine. She even wiggled her nose just like me when I first wake up.

“Daddy?” My heart skipped a beat and Tony looked surprised for a moment, before he nodded his head, continuing to smile at her.

“Yeah Charlie…I’m your daddy.”

“Hi daddy, it’s nice to finally meet you.” She scooted closer to him, releasing Franklin, and she gently set her tiny hand on his cheek. Tony looked like he was about to cry and I bit my lip happily. It was a very beautiful sight.

“It’s so nice to finally meet you too babygirl.” Charlotte rubbed his cheek a little more before wrapping her arms around his neck and snuggling into him. Tony pulled her closer and then picked her up so she had her little legs wrapped around his waist, her face buried into his neck as she clung onto him.

“Your mommy used to do this when she was too tired to walk.” Tony chuckled.

“You were the clingy one when you first woke up if I remember correctly.” I accused playfully. Charlotte giggled and played with Tony’s hair.

“Momma is silly.” My jaw dropped playfully and Tony laughed.

“I couldn’t agree more…but that’s why we love her isn’t it?” I blushed and Charlotte nodded her head in agreement.

“Okay, if we’re done making fun of momma, why don’t we go eat breakfast before it gets cold?” I announced.

“Breakfast!” Charlotte exclaimed a little more awake than she had been. I had a feeling it was because Tony was finally with her, the excitement caused her to wake up faster. Tony followed me out of the bedroom and when we got downstairs he gently put her down in a chair before I handed her a plate with everything cut up so she wouldn’t choke.
