New Beginnings.

I can't help but wonder what life would be like without the supernatural in it. It would be somewhat like watching a black and white movie about how grass grows, I suppose. It would be quiet, all but happy. Bland.

I shuddered at the thought and snapped out of my trance. It was a new year, junior year for me. Some of the seniors I hang out with told me that junior year is supposed to be the hardest and filled with the most work. I'm not sure if that's true or not, honestly when I hear things like that about school I shrug them off and go with the flow trying not to complain. I slowly stripped out of my clothes and slipped into the shower, trying to make it last as long as possible. While the steaming water poured over my body I thought about the book I was reading.

It was about practically every mythical creature ever made up in this world. I was always interested in fantasy, stories, legends, vampires, witches, werewolves, goblins, demons, and even fairies. Most of the time I lived in my own fantasy world, I made the people around me into secret characters and wrote my own little stories about their adventures. It was an unhealthy habit. One I couldn't give up easily. I wished and dreamed of a world that was just like the stories.

And now I keep thinking; be careful what you wish for.

Finally having to give up my steamy, dreamy, hot box, I stepped out and toweled myself off with a yawn. I was usually up by now, but I didn't sleep much the night before. I had kept having the strangest dream; I was in the middle of the Valley Fray forest, and there was a wolf there, it was sitting on my lap licking my face. Oh the dog slobber felt real! That wasn't the worst part though, the worst part was when the arrow came whizzing through the trees straight at my face. My heart raced as the arrow seemed to move in slow motion, no chance of it changing course, and no chance of me moving either. I felt my eyes widen in terror, sweat rolled down my neck. And then, just as the arrow reached a foot's length away from my head, the wolf stood and blocked it. I remembered it's cry of pain as the arrow shot right through it's massive body.

I searched the woods for where it had come from and there was nothing. The wolf lie nearly dead on the floor of dead autumn leaves, bleeding from it's side. I watched it, helplessly, and felt hot tears roll down my cheeks. I felt like I had known this wolf for the longest time, and that I had loved it deeply. But how? The wolves in Valley Fray are dangerous and savage. No one could get near one and live to tell the tale, as it were they already lived on the boundaries of the town only rarely deciding to come into Valley Fray. My heart ached for the wolf, and I knelt to touch it. The cold feel of his stiffening body was still fresh on my finger tips as I headed downstairs to eat a quick breakfast.

Blane, my older brother, was already in the kitchen, grabbing an orange juice from the fridge. He gave me a quick nod and started chugging the juice. I frowned at him. He stared at me with his bright, brown eyes that always seemed to hold mischief in them and smiled. My brother was a lot bigger than me, not really bulky, more like lean and tall. About 6'4 whereas I was at an awesome little 5'3. He also had different hair than I did. My mum says he inherited it from her mum's side of the family because while all of our hair was a really dark, almost black, brown, his was pale blond and super thin. Just like our grandmother's. It made for an interesting look, peach colored skin, a soft nose, those light, sepia colored eyes, and then that pale blond hair. In my opinion, he looked like something from another world. He tossed the half empty bottle into his backpack and disappeared into the living room.
