The Master

I walked down the long dark hall. I knew at one end was my master. Carefully I entered his study. I handed him the newspaper.

Mass Murder! It proclaimed on the front.

My master laughed. "Clueless lot they are!" he chuckled. I knew why. He had murdered those people.

I shivered. He glanced up sharply.

"Is something wrong boy?" he asked quietly. His voice was deadly. "N-no," I stuttered.

He backhanded me. I stumbled and fell. I could feel the bruise forming already.

"Don't lie boy," he purred. "It only makes me want to kill you."

My blood turned to ice. "Yes, master." I whispered.

That's when I heard the door slam open.

A tall, thin man strode into the study. "L-larten," gasped my master. The man named Larten ran at him and soon they were only a flurry of blows.

I cowered behind my masters overturned desk.
