It all (kinda) started in eighth grade. Junior varsity spring soccer tryouts. Lia and I had played soccer for as long as I could remember, but there was one spot left on the team, and Coach gave it to me. It was beyond my power. Regardless, Lia held it against me. It started off subtle, then it snowballed. First, she filled me in about her new opinion on Olivia Logan, who, according to Lia, was pretty okay, and maybe we should talk to her. We hated Olivia. We joked that because she swayed her hips all over the place, that finally they would come unhinged from the rest of her and she would become a half nugget-person. Then, she stopped talking to me altogether. All I heard during third period algebra were snickers and the occasional giggle behind me. There were no notes passed, sweaty-teacher-pits laughed at, or Doritos being secretly shared. I didn't spend much time with her by then, but I noticed that she wore a little more eyeliner and a little less clothing. By the time there were three weeks left of school, she was one of them. Amelia Claire Johnson was no longer my best friend.
