"Jake," I said. "I need to tell you something."
"What?" he rolled his eyes.
I leaned closer to him so I can whisper, "I like you."
"K," he answered again. I already told him gazillion times that I like him. Though every time I attempted, he always took it down.
When he asked some of our classmates if who wants to go with him to the canteen, I volunteered. Actually, four eyes is not a loner. He has some friends and he doesn't have that much problem about interacting.
He rolled his eyes, "Never mind. I suddenly felt like I'm full." He returned back to his seat.
That four eyes, his arms showed everything that he's malnourish or unhealthy or something. He lacks vitamin a to z, furthermore, he lacks vitamin me. Ew okay, I'm gonna tease him again. "Never knew seeing my face makes you full," I winked.
After a while, our History teacher arrived. Everybody immediately went back to their respective seats and greeted miss Geunevetti good morning. As soon as we sat on our seats, she started talking. My head suddenly turned to Jake for I know that History is his favorite subject.
"Miss," miss Geunevetti paused as she thought for my name. It was obvious that she didn't know, but I just sat still in affright while waiting for her to continue even though I don't want her to.
"Miss eyes-there," she said with her thumb sliding from her pinky to her index finger several times. "Eyes in front." Blimey, she noticed that I was looking at Jake.
She put her right hand on top of the sturdy table, "Since this month is History month, I want all of you to work together! I will group you into five members each. How many are you?"
"39, miss!" Jake shouted attentively. He was really paying attention to this matter.
"Okay," she said. "The seven groups will consist five members and one group will have four members."
To have a fair choice of members, we had a lottery. I got to pick group number five.
"Hey," I whispered to Izzy, the seat mate of four eyes. "What number did Jake get?"
"Five," she answered that made me scream happily as I rejoiced. But my mini powwow inside my head got paused when miss Geunevetti made me go to the detention room. As I entered the detention room, all I can say was 'so humiliating' out loud repeatedly for it was Jake's favorite subject and I can't believe I got sent to detention because of that subject.
"Got sent to detention again huh?" someone asked me so I directed my eyes to him, and as expected, it was Theo. "Bad girl," he smirked.
"Then what are you? Satan?" I rolled my eyes.
"Hey, I don't come here everyday."
"Let me guess," I said. "You don't come here every weekend."
He chuckled, "Betcha are a good guesser."
I just sat down beside the window and that pesky Theo sat beside me. He moved my head towards his direction by holding my chin as he spoke, "Wanna have History class right now?"
"Huh?"
He removed his hand from my chin, "Slowpoke." He sighed, "Let me tell you about little Jaco and Thedo's biography. Yes, our first name and surnames mixed together. People very close to us can only call us that."
Looking out the window, he started telling, "I was the real nerd. I had braces, I had those big unflashy glasses and I was really a bookworm and quite a smartypants. My classmates bullied me, I thought I was the only one who could understand me, but my perspective changed when Jake transferred to our school. We became friends, he always protected me from those bullies. But one day, I found that Christy likes him so after the exams, I grabbed his paper secretly and changed his answers to wrong answers so he would fail, and he did. He soon stayed away from me and Christy had an early relationship with Carl until now."
"But," I spoke but I stopped when he started speaking again.
"Starting that day, I changed my look. I didn't wear glasses, instead I wore contact lenses. I stopped the busy nerd-looking look and started wearing cool clothes. My new found friend before advised me."
"But you can apologize to him!" I said.
"I tried being near to him, but he kept staying away."
I told him, "Then don't stop. You can achieve anything if you work hard and if you don't stop."
"What makes you easily say that?" he rolled his eyes.
"I got into a car accident when I was eight," I said. "I thought I couldn't walk since that incident, but everyday I tried and didn't stop trying until I can finally walk."
"That isn't in my dictionary," he said.
"Then add it."
After detention, I went home alone for Jake already went home when I asked our classmates. So Jake like clever girls, I wonder if I'll be clever he'll like me back. Hey wait, I don't even like Jake! I mean if I'll be clever, maybe I'll be able to play with him better.
When I got home, I wondered why the door was open. My heartbeats raced as I hyperventilated, but I tried to calm myself by breathing deeply and thought that I should not overreact. I still grabbed an umbrella just beside the door and started walking as I tiptoed while trying to be aware.
