Chapter 1 – Shy Girl in a new school
Today was the day, the first day back at school from the summer. I again am moving schools. I pulled my sleeves down to my and put the excess fabric in may balled fists. I let my long brown hair cascade down so it fell in front of my face. I liked to fade in the background; I made sure I was quiet and unnoticed. This was a habit I needed to break.
I made my way down to the school office to get my timetable. I hesitantly walked up to the secretary’s office, I asked in a small quiet voice, “I’m Charlie Waller, The new girl.” The secretary seemed quite young she only looked like she was in her twenties. She was a bit to bubbly for me, over bubbly to be a high school secretary if you ask me.
She said, “Well hello Charlie we’ve been expecting you! I’m Miss Abernath,
here is your timetable and I’ll just have to somebody to show you around.” She said in her southern accent. I didn’t really want to spend half the day being shown around by some stranger. I didn’t really like making new friends but I guess I’ll have to. I was taken out of my own world as Miss Abernath shouted to a boy across the room,
“Jake could you please show this new girl, Charlie around the school I’ll e-mail your teachers that you’ll be missing all day. You two have fun.”
This boy known as Jake walked up to me and smiled, I gave him a small smile trying not to be rude.
“So you must be Charlie.”
He held out a hand for me to shake. I un-balled my fists and took them out of my cardigan sleeve and shook his hand. It was soft like really soft.
“Yes, and you must be Jake.”
