eos & tithonus

20 1 1

the only thing war loves more
than a pretty face worth fighting for
is the dawn of a new day

signaling that the fight hasn't yet been lost

the dawn loving war was an affair of great magnitude
and when that pretty face back home found out
she unleashed a wrath of even greater magnitude

so the pretty face cursed the dawn;
she would be eternally in love

sempiternal feelings for an immortal being

so the dawn, with her rosy fingertips wandered the earth

until she stepped into the presence of the prince

the dawn fell in love, as did the prince
for who could neglect such a goddess

and who could overlook such royalty

ay, so the dawn pleaded with her god, her king
and was given the gift of immortality for her dear prince

but woe to the dawn for she didn't ask for abiding youth
and as the amarthrine goddess lived on
the evanescent prince aged on

the prince and the dawn were equals in age

but not youth, so as she lived in youth, and he got older

the prince began to wander and wish for his former mortality

every sunrise, the dawn would hear her lover's cries
of agony and sorrow, when one daybreak
it became to much for her to bear

the dawn shone down and transformed the prince

his arms turned to gossamer wings and his skin to an insect's vellum
and where her lover once stood was a crying cicada
the prince still calling to the dawn of how he foolishly loved her
