Chapter 1

Ayden's POV

New start. New life. New beginnings. That's what I left home and the pack that was established there. There are things that happened that made me realize that the pack was nothing but a bunch of ruthless, uncaring people.

They killed if people broke their trust. Sometimes they spared people, only to kill someone they loved or was close too.

My sister wasn't so lucky. She was killed by our Alpha, who happened to be her mate. I tried to save her, but I was too late when I got there. Alex beat her and killed her because she tried to leave him.

Alex and Natalie were a happy couple before they mated, but when they did eventually mate, he changed. He became more distant, more rude to her, he even cheated on her.

Things got even worse when she found out she was pregnant. He was sickly happy with her having his kid, but I think it was because he had an heir for the pack.

The only thing she wanted was to save her beautiful baby boy, Luca.

No one in the pack questioned what happened to Natalie. They were afraid of being killed or losing someone. They seen it happen to people or have had it happen to them, so they kept quiet.

Once nightfall came, I packed up most of my clothes and possessions, and Luca's baby stuff and packed my SUV full.

Luca was already sleeping so I put him in his toddler seat without him waking up. I hopped in and tore out of there.

Now here I am, in a town called Veron. It seems like a quiet, no danger place to settle. Luca and I spent the last three months traveling and settling in different places until I was sure I threw my old pack off my trail.

I parked my teal colored Tahoe SUV in the small gravel driveway of my new house. It was a small cottage, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, living room, and dining room. The garage obviously needed some work, so I'll just park outside for now.

"Mama, we here?" Luca had been calling me that for a month, and I knew he didn't understand that his mom died.

I just let him call me that, he was like my son now. I promised Nat I would take care of him in case If she couldn't.

I looked in the rearview mirror. Luca thankfully had all his mom in him. His brown hair was messy from him sleeping most of the trip, his bright green eyes wide in interest looked from the window to me. I was thankful that when people asked me if he was mine, I nodded my head. We looked just alike.

I nodded my head, "Yeah, baby, we're here. Hold on and I'll come grab you out of your car seat." He nodded his head and angled his tiny body to the front.

I opened my door and stepped out onto the gravel, walking around the front to get to the other side of the SUV where Luca was. I opened the door and unbuckled Luca out of the seat.

He was greedily kicking me, wanting to be let down.

"Luca stay next to the vehicle, please. Don't run off without me knowing." I warned him before setting him down.

He smiled up at me before taking off as fast as his legs could towards the house.

I shook my head. No matter what I told him he never listened to me. Even being just three years old, the Alpha in him was showing. That scared me.

It was hot out today, so I want to get things pretty much set up before taking off into town to grab groceries and stuff.

I grabbed Luca's things first so that way he had some things to play with.

Angling my body around the door, while carrying two boxes of his things, was difficult. Especially when trying to walk up some stairs. I huffed and set the boxes on my knees, diggin the keys out of my pocket.

I opened the door and put the boxes down, observing everything. Luca walked in after me and stood by my side. I looked down at him and smiled.

"What do you think, buddy?" I saw him smile up at me and felt my heart stir. He looked so much like her.

"I can't wait to play with my toys and run around here." Luca jumped up and down excitedly.

Good, I thought. I looked around and I thought it was a good place to start new.

"Good." I whispered to myself before taking a breath.

-----

"Can we get some watermelon?" Luca asked me with puppy dogs eyes and a small frown on his face.

I chuckled when he couldn't say watermelon right. He had a little trouble with some words.

"You going to eat some of it this time?" I smiled down at him. We were at the grocery store in town after putting most of the essential things away at home.

Luca giggled and nodded. "Yes!" He yelled at me.

I nodded and turned the cart around and head to where the produce section was. The watermelon table had all kind of sizes of them.

"Pick whatever one you want" I showed him three of them. Of course picking out the smallest ones. He looked in thought before touching one of them.

"This one!" He cried. Gosh, he gets so excited when it comes to food. I swear the wolf in him, had to stomachs. I put the watermelon in the cart and turned around only to bump into someone.

"I am so sorry. I didn't see you there." I looked up to the person and froze. Deep green eyes were intensely starring at me. I looked away from them with to explore the rest of him. His brown hair was somewhat messy, but he worked it. His lips were pink and full.

His jaw was clenched and it made my breathing pick up. I looked down at his form. He was defiantly muscular. His chest was expanded and his shoulders were broad. He legs were long and looked full of muscle under the jeans he was wearing.

He cleared his throat, making me look back into his eyes. His hand moved from his side and reached out to touch my cheek. When his fingers made contact with my skin, I jumped a littler when I felt a jolt of electricity shoot through my arm down toward my body.

I gasped and my eyes widened. What is that?

He dropped his had but not before rubbing his thumb across the apple of my cheek.

I opened my mouth to say something, but he looked towards my cart where Luca was sitting. I followed his eyes and agnled my body to block his eyes from looking at him.

I cleared my throat and narrowed my eyes. "I'm sorry I ran into you." I apologized again before turning around and hurrying into the next axils, trying to get away from that man.

I didn't like how his eyes showed possessiveness and angry. I shivered when I thought about his touch.

God, what am I thinking? I shook my head trying to clear it out.

Luca asked me, "Who was that?" I looked down at him. His eyes were wide and his mouth was parted.

I shook my head, "I don't know. Do you want some chicken nuggets for dinner?" I desperately wanted to change the conversation.

Luca smiled and nodded his head. I smiled and shook off the feeling I was getting.

I paid for our stuff and was loading it out when I felt the wind pick up. I smelt a pine tree, woodsy smell, I froze and straightened my back. I turned my head and saw the man from earlier watching me from a truck.

My breathing picked up and I hurriedly turned back around and threw the groceries into the trunk. I grabbed Luca and buckled him in his seat. I ignores the burning gaze I felt and jumped into the SUV.

I swallowed and looked in the rearview mirror as I pulled away from the market. The black truck was gone.

Shit. There's a pack here,and I think I just found my mate.
