Maya's POV

Maya and Riley were sitting by their window. They came back from the last day of school. ,Now it was all Christmas.

This Christmas were different for Maya. She would celebrate with the Mathews, something she does all the time. BUT her mom and Shawn would be in Europe for holidays. Shawn and her mom. Alone.

So yeah, Riley and Maya were just sitting there by their window, talking about -what else?- Lucas.

-So I turned around and he was looking at me! And he smiled. And I smiled!

She was shining. Lucas was Riley's first crush, the first boy she ever liked. He was that blonde blue-eyed guy that smiled at you and you fell down. Okay, that's not really true for Maya, but even she had to admit he was good looking.

-Riley, he is huckleberry. He LIKES you as much as you like him. ,Maya said.

-You think?

-I think.

Then the bell rang. The girls exchanged a glance.

-Maya... ,Riley began, that's probably my uncle Josh..

Maya smiled.

-It's okay Riles. I am different now. I'm okay.

Riley smiled at her best friend and ran for the door.

Maya followed her. This will be interesting.

No matter what, Josh would be always her big crush. She used to be obsessive about him but now she was seventeen. She had moved on.

Riley opened the door and Josh was standing there.

He hadn't change much. He had the same dark hair, messy but in a good way. His eyes were shining. He was a little bit taller than Maya remembered him.

-Uncle Josh, Riley said and hugged the boy.

-Riley! ,Josh said.

They pulled away and Josh looked at Maya. He looked like he was expecting something. Like she would jump on him like she used to do.

Maya laughed softly.

-Don't worry, I'm calm. ,she said.

Josh smiled.

-Yeah, so I figured. It's been a while.

-Sure has.

-Well, you grew gorgeous. ,he said rubbing the back of his neck.

Maya tried hard not to blush.

Josh walked past her.

-So where's my brother niece? ,he asked.

-He is out with mom and Auggie to buy some food. He'll be here soon.

-Oh! Okay, I'm just going to let my things in the guest room, then.

-Okay, Riley smiled, I am going to cook something to eat because I'm starving. Do you guys want a sandwich?

Maya was ready to say "no" but Josh cut her off.

-Actually I was hoping you would help me unpack my things. Seriously, mom probably thinks I'm going to Alaska or something.

Riley looked at Maya with wide eyes. Maya shook her head but of course that didn't stop the brunette.

-Sorry uncle Josh. But I am sure Maya won't mind. Will you Maya?

The girl made a note to kill Riley after that.
