The smell of the cool Kentucky air greeted me as I awoke from my slumber. I had fallen asleep last night after I put Alanna down and apparently forgot to shut the window. Alanna was my seven year old daughter, whom I loved dearly. Her father on the other hand? Not so much.
We met at work and seemed to really hit it off, or so I thought. We dated for about a year and then, he proposed. I said yes, not knowing how much of a mess he was, refusing to let my happily ever after disappear. A couple of months after the wedding, I became pregnant with Alanna and the fame and glory of his job finally caught up with him. He was Randy Orton, the top WWE superstar in the business...
It wasn't long before I caught on to his drug abuse and I tried so hard to help him. Eventually, he got the help he needed, but not from me, our marriage had already been destroyed by then. I tried to make it work, for Alanna, but I couldn't. He wasn't there for me through my pregnancy and it hurt. He barely made it in time for the delivery and when she was born, we stayed together a few months before separating. It broke my heart, not only for me, but for Alanna. She didn't deserve to grow up without her father, so we agreed on joint custody. I didn't want to go to court and neither did he. I refused to have my baby in the tabloids and thankfully, Randy and I settled our differences privately, and our private life has remained just that for the past seven years.
He and I try to remain friends, especially around Alanna. Sometimes it's hard, I won't lie, but we make it work for her. I have her ninety percent of the time and Randy has her when he's off work or comes down for a visit. She doesn't see him often, since he is on the road three-hundred days a year, and of course, now he has his own family...
I sit up on the bed and stretch. I was still tired, but I had to make Alanna breakfast and get her off to school. I quickly got ready and headed toward the kitchen. As I walked through the hallway, I passed my awards and couldn't help but smile. I missed working but I also loved being a mom. I hadn't worked with the WWE in a few years. I did come back a few times for the Hall of Fame, but it had been a while since I had been in the ring. I was still under a Legend's contract and Paul had contacted me a few days ago to see if I was interested in meeting with them today at the local arena. I told him I would stop by, but had no idea what he wanted...
"Mommy! What's for breakfast?" Alanna's screeching voice greeted me as she hopped up on the bar. She was still in her pajamas and her dirty blonde hair fell into her bright blue eyes.
I shrug. "Well, what do you want?"
"Lucky Charms!" I chuckled, knowing that would be her answer. I fixed her bowl of cereal and let her eat as I went to pick out her outfit for the day. I knew it was starting to get a little cool outside, being the middle of fall, so I decided on jeans, a Frozen t-shirt, and a grey cardigan. Before long, she met me in her room and I helped her get ready for the day. It just so happened that we finished earlier than usual, so we got to watch some cartoons while we waited on the bus. "Mommy, do you think Daddy will come by this week?"
"I don't know, dear. We'll just have to see." It broke my heart to see her disappointed, but I really couldn't give her an answer because I just didn't know.
Just as her favorite show started to roll credits, I saw the big yellow bus pull to the curb. I helped her with her backpack and then walked her outside. She gave me a hug before joining her friend on the front seat. I waved until they disappeared and then went back inside to eat my own breakfast. I had a little time before they would be at the arena downtown, so I made sure I was presentable before heading to my car.
The entire way there I couldn't help but wonder why he wanted to meet me. It was so random but then again, I did usually show up anyway. It was good to see some of my old friends around the locker room, it gave me a chance to catch up with them.
When I arrived, I parked around back with the talent and gave my name to security. I was ushered inside and then left to find my way around the place. I would have probably complained, but they knew me and they knew I had been here plenty of times, I mean, I did live here. "Casey Bennett! I had a feeling you'd show up!" Natalya grabbed me from behind and gave me a bear hug.
"Nattie! It's been too long!"
She nods and let's go of me. "I know! It seems like we're in every state multiple times a year except Kentucky! I'll have to pick a fight with the schedulers."
I chuckle. "Say, have you seen Paul around?"
"Yeah, he was just down the hall a minute ago. I think he was talking to Heyman." I quickly explained to her why I asked then made my way down the corridor to find them. Thankfully, Paul was still there and when he saw me, he dismissed Heyman and turned his attention to me. "There you are! Come right in." He opened a door off to the right as I followed him inside. It was a small room, just barely big enough for a desk and two chairs. "I guess you're wondering why I asked you to drop in, huh?"
I nod. "Maybe a little."
He sighs. "Well, let's get to it then. Our star players are out of the game right now and our ratings are plummeting. With Cena out to film a show and Undertaker and Sting injured, we just don't have the locker room to pull in the ratings, especially for main events. The creative team is wanting to push Randy but Vince and I aren't so sure of that right now. I don't want to keep pushing the same guys over and over to the universe, it's not what's best for business. So, that's where you come in."
I hold back my gasp. "Me? You want me to come back?"
He nods. "Our diva division is weak and we need a legend to build it back up. Not only that, but we need someone to give our ratings a boost and I think that's you."
"By myself? I don't know that I'll be able to do all that alone."
He smiles. "It's a good thing I already thought of that because I've discussed it with the writers and they've came up with a good storyline for you... Now, I know you've been keeping up with Raw lately, so tell me. Who's our biggest male wrestler?"
I think a moment. "Roman?"
He shakes his head. "One day, but think on a bigger scale... Think main eventers."
Then it hit me. "Brock?" He nods. "Brock Lesnar?"
"It's been awhile since we've had a good mixed tag team and I think you two are the perfect fit. When you were here, you were like the female version of him. You didn't care what people thought of you, you didn't worry about the diva image, you were just you."
I was flabbergasted.
I didn't know what to say.
He wanted me to come back and team up with the Brock Lesnar? How would that even work? I mean, he's never been in a tag team, much less with a diva...
