It was the evening before the last day of school. My parents' fighting didn't get any better. My dad was an alcoholic, so that didn't help. Most of the time i would run up to my room and hide from there wrath but, today my mom said something that sparked my interest. "You're going to make him hate us. He's going to be scared. He's going to go to Uncle Gary's farm tomorrow." I heard the door slam and the garage door start to open. I ran upstairs and flopped onto my bed as my mom stepped through the door and sat down on the chair at my desk. She rested her head in her hands and muttered "What am I going to do with him?" Over the years she found my room to be the safest place in our house. The phone rang. My mom calmly got up and checked the call display. It read ' Grace General Hospital,' mom cursed under her breath and picked up the phone." This is Margaret speaking." She spoke slowly. The man on the other end said" Your husband died in a car crash. I'm sorry for your loss." " I'm not." she said snarkily. She hung up. My mom turned around and slipped her hand into her pocket, pulling out a slip of paper and handing it to me. I read it aloud " General Station 8:00 Wintaville - Kilnerburg. Bye Mom, get outta my room so I can pack" She interrupted me" You'll be there for a year."
