Chapter 1 : New Start

Moving from Nevada to South Carolina isn't the easiest decision for my family , i am the oldest of 6 children . " I always was the sexiest out of anybody i hang around " i jokingly laughed . I am 5'9 brown skin, i take very good care of my appearance , 8 pack and very intelligent plus all the girls wanted me . I loved Nevada and I hated that i have to leave all of my friends and old memories behind . See , the reason were moving to South Carolina is because before my mom lost her job , she had met a rich man who said he would take care of her " typical woman " i thought to myself , but a couple months after he died my mom lost her job but found out that he left everything to her in a will , including a house in South Carolina that was paid for and utilities that were paid up. She Had 500 million dollars in a bank account the will said but why did we have to move across country ? She must had to really put it down on him . I didn't really understand it at first , why South Carolina ? Maybe she did actually want us to have a better life , become something other then being in the streets . There is no one i love more then my grandma , so on the way driving to South Carolina i continuously called and checked in on her . She always replied she was okay but i could hear the hurt and crackle in her voice about the big move .

Driving to South Carolina felt like we were traveling for years , we made about 15 stops because each time my little sister Carla or my sister Ciara had to pee . Traveling with little kids can be a big headache . All of our names start with ' C ' and its easier to remember . I'm Chance 17 , Cameron and Carmen are 15 they are twins , Chase is 13 , Carla is 6 and Ciara is 3 . " Seems like my mom was very busy " i jokingly laugh . Each time we stop at a gas station Chase decides he needs a memorabilia . We approach one gas station and a group of teenagers were standing in the front gathered around , my mom locked the door and told us not to get out while she paid for gas . The group approached the car , " aye kid, whats your name " one teenager from the group yelled . " Chance " i replied . Saved by the bell my mom was coming back out of the gas station and the teens walked away .

My mom filled up the gas tank and got in the car , we pulled off . I continuously looked back wondering why were they asking my name , i am a complete stranger , not noticing our out of state tags and the luggage's roped to the hood . We had reared back off unto the highway , approximately 10 more miles , I finally seen the South Carolina state sign ! Man was i relieved that we made it there safely . Glaring out the window all i could see was trees and plain fields , no buildings or fast food restaurants . It seemed incredibly quiet down here , mostly animals . As we were driving , my sister Carmen has a eye for fashion , so she spotted a mall quickly then i knew at that moment we were moving in a city part of South Carolina .

We drove for about 5 more miles and a fast food restaurant , clothing store , pizzeria and gas stations were starting to appear . The smile on my face was so big , i couldn't believe how beautiful South Carolina was . My mom parked inside a McDonalds , we all scurried out the car to go inside . picking a table for us to sit at , i spotted the most beautiful girl i have ever seen . Her hair glowed like a warm ray of sunshine on a cold winters day . She was the cashier for today , i sat at the table just glaring at her beauty , no way i could approach the counter and order . " Chance , Chance " my mom called across the room . I had my headphones in so i could barely hear anything around me but i seen her body language . Why was i so afraid to approach the counter , i never had been shy with girls from Nevada . I got up after my mom decided to walk towards me with a scowl on her face . i took a deep breath and removed one headphone from my ear . " welcome to McDonald's , may i take your order " in the sweetest voice you could possibly ever hear , the cashier said . I hesitated then replied " uh , can i have a number 5 small , sprite with honey mustard " .

I paid for my food , she handed me a receipt and i waited for my food . The whole time i can feel her and her coworker staring at me , i liked the idea that she paid attention to me too . The girls were giggling and i could tell they were speaking of me , each time i looked up from changing the song i had played in my headphones , her coworker would smile at me . " 105 " an employee called . My food was now ready , i grabbed my bag from the counter and looked inside , i was now missing napkins . " excuse me , can i get some napkins " i asked the blonde hair girl . She reached under the counter and gave me a handful of napkins . Our fingers touched as she handed me the napkins , she pulled back and giggled . " Sorry " she apologized . " its cool no problem your hand is really soft " i replied then walked away . As i walked out of McDonald's i felt accomplished knowing i really didn't do anything but I'm glad i approached the counter.

Pulling off from McDonald's , i couldn't help but wonder would i be able to see her again . " Were almost close to the new house " my mom said . I really hope i had my own room , who knows how many bedrooms this house could have . Meanwhile , we pull into this drive way of a huge mansion like house , there was a sports car in the driveway and a truck behind it with a note placed on the hood . " This house is so beautiful " my mom cried with astonishment . I opened my door and got out the car , by this time all the kids jumped out the car . Walking towards the car with the note placed on the windshield i hope no one would jump out and say " SURPRISE " ! "

" To Whom This May Concern , i left this note in my will for it to be placed on my sports car for one special person , so chance if you are reading this , the car is now yours , think of it as an early graduation present , the truck is for the whole family , I'm sorry i couldn't hand you the keys in person but i love your mom so much , she is the love of my life but i am very sick and i don't know how much longer i would had to live which no one knows not even doctors . Your mom knew of my condition but unconditionally loved me , i had no kids or ex wives that cared , she was only one there for me no matter what and i want you guys to feel the same joy and happiness for the rest of your lives and Chance promise me you will make your mom and siblings proud , stay out of trouble . I love each and every one of you . Signed , Daniel Murray " the note said .

A tear rolled down from my eye as i read the note . This guy was actually like a father figure to me , my brothers and sisters . If i would have known he was sick i would have tried to spend everyday i could with him . I slumped down in front of the car and began to cry , "why did god have to take the only man who actually cared about us " crying to myself . After about 5 minutes of crying i pulled myself together , " Daniel wouldn't want me sitting on the ground crying , he would want me to be happy that he's not suffering anymore " i began to think . Walking towards the front door to go in the house where the others were i spotted a basketball court down the street " cool " i said aloud . I walked inside the house it was huge , something out of a dinner movie .

    9 bedrooms , 6 baths and finally i had my own room . This really seemed like a dream or big prank , it all became too real fast ! I helped my my mom unpack all of our belongings from the car , we had only brought our clothes . This house was amazing it was designed with the highest fashions well at least that's what Carmen said . We had all been settled in just in time for dinner . Getting seated around the table , everyone settling in there chairs , we gathered hands for grace .

" god is grace , god is good thank you for our food and thank you for our new beautiful home and many blessings to come , Amen ! " we all chimed .

After dinner , we all collected our plates and sat them in the dish washer . " Chance isn't this house wonderful " my mom said cheerfully . " ma , its amazing i thought this was an actual prank but who knows what wonderful things are possible " i replied . I kissed my mom on the forehead and walked around the kitchen , heading across the living room to my room , secluded in the back . Turning my tv on Cartoon Network because Adult Swim was soon to come on . " got the drink in me going back to back , I'm going back to back " my phone starts ringing . i answered after about 3 rings . " wassup man , you cant answer , you too good for ya homies now " my friend AJ said . " man you know with the move and things I've been busy a lot , ill call you tomorrow though " i replied . After i hung up the phone without a goodbye i turned over and looked at the wall . My friends were okay but often got on my nerves , i didn't want to follow in there footsteps of drugs and I'm never going down that path .
