Hello, all!!!!
This is short, but hilarious. Enjoy!!!!
Verity
Reyna woke up in a white bed that had sheets stiff with starch. The light overhead hurt her eyes, and the whiteness of the walls made her wince.
Where was she?
"Reyna?"
Reyna started and looked wildly around. Her eyes finally took in the sight of Draco Malfoy, running towards her. Apparently he'd been leaning against the doorframe.
"What the Hades, Malfoy? Were you- watching me sleep? Merely reading that in a muggle book was intoxicatingly nauseating!"
Draco laughed a little. He sounded slightly hysterical. "Of course. I ought to have expected this. You were dying, I brought you here by myself- I haven't left this spot for two days, and the first thing you can ask when you wake up and see me is if I was watching you sleep? Merlin's pants, Reyna! You were in a coma, not napping."
Reyna felt stunned. "You- you haven't left this spot for two days? How long have I been here?"
"Two days," he said. He looked exhausted.
Reyna sat bolt upright. "No!" Then she clutched at her side. "Draco," she gasped out, "there's a Quidditch match today! Against Slytherin!"
"I know," he said, looking faintly amused.
"I have to go. We've been practicing for ages; we can't just-"
"They'll do fine," he said. His grey eyes softened a little. "You need to rest. You hear me?"
"I'm going."
He shook his head. "How many times do I have to tell you-"
"Reyna!"
Reyna looked up to see Alexos rush in and felt remorse punch her in the gut. He was here? After what she'd said to him about being a former Death Eater, she'd been afraid he'd never talk to her again. But she felt even worse when she realized that she wanted to be alone with Draco right now.
Wait.
That couldn't be right.
Did she... did she fancy him?
No, she groaned to herself; it's even worse than that. I love him.
Love?
How could that be? She'd hated him since the first minute she'd seen him. She hadn't even hated Octavian as much as she'd hated Draco. The way he'd acted...
But he's changed, she realized, or he couldn't have wanted to bring her here and STAY. He'd have dropped her off and left. Now that he was looking at his cousin, Reyna could watch him unobserved and see that his eyes had dark hollows underneath them. Had he slept?
But enough, enough thinking. Alexos was by her bed, and a brunette Healer was coming in.
"Hey," she said, sitting up.
Alexos looked stricken. "Reyna, I- I'm so sorry. I should have told you about- well. You know."
She nodded.
He was about to say something else, but when he looked up and saw the Healer, his jaw dropped. "Lacey?" he asked incredulously.
Reyna shook her head. More secrets?
Meanwhile, the Healer was clearly trying to place Alexos. Then her face cleared- "you're that boy- Alexos- you left Hogwarts in your third year, and you-"
"My uncle and aunt took me out just before I was going to come get you for Hogsmeade," he said sheepishly.
"Oh," she said, blushing. "Well, I'm, er, not seeing anyone. Currently."
Alexos looked awkward. "I... well, it's just that this girl... she and I..."
"Oh!" the Healer gasped, looking mortified. "I'll- I'll just, um-" and she hurried out of the room, her cheeks scarlet.
Reyna scowled, her momentary remorse forgotten. Over Alexos's shoulder, she could see Draco doing the same thing. Her Roman temper flared. "Alexos," she snapped, "that poor girl is obviously into you. And I. Broke. Up. With. You!"
Alexos shifted his weight on the edge of the bed. "I know. But I thought... oh, I don't know- I thought maybe we could start over."
"We can't," Reyna told him flatly. "I don't fancy you anymore. I'm sorry, but that's how it is."
He flushed. "Well, I thought you would want me to try!"
"I'm sorry," Reyna said, reflecting a bit resentfully that HE didn't show any signs of sleep deprivation. What was the world coming to? She, Reyna-Avila Ramirez-Arellano, was being fought over! Well, sort of, anyways. She still wasn't sure....
Oh, who was she kidding? It was obvious that Alexos still liked her, and she knew Draco at least liked her.
"Look," she told Alexos, "I'm a little tired. Maybe leave and go to the Demigod/Slytherin match?"
He stood up and walked out, looking as if he'd been clubbed over the head.
"Whoa," Draco said quietly once the door had closed. "I didn't think you could do that."
"What?"
"Send him out like that. With those puppy-dog eyes confronting you?"
Reyna laughed a little. "Yeah, I s'pose so."
Draco laughed a bit. "So," he said finally, "I have something for you, Reyna."
"Really?" she asked, looking curiously at him.
"Yeah," he said, and handed her a jewelry box.
Her heart started to pound. What was this? Was it a necklace? A bracelet? A ring? Either way, it was really romantic! She opened it to find a beautiful, glorious, life-changing...
Ring pop.
She glared at him. "REALLY?"
He laughed, the famous Malfoy smirk creeping into his face. "Yeah. And judging by the murderous glint in your eyes, you aren't pleased."
"No," she growled, "I'm not."
"Such rudeness! I give you a gift and this is how you receive it?"
She only scowled.
"Fine," he said, "will taking you back to Hogwarts for the match restore balance to the universe?"
She considered this. "Maybe."
He grinned. "Good enough for me. Let's go."
