Luke and Eric sat at lunch table with their friends Zach, Breana, Derek, Noah, and Luke's girlfriend Hadlee. It was the day right before summer break, so they were talking about their plans for the summer on what they were gonna do.
" Ok guys, where should we meet up?" asked Noah. "I don't know." Replied Derek. Everybody else shook their heads. Except Luke. He started giggling to himself, the way he always did when he had a joke coming up. " I do." Giggled Luke. Hadlee grabbed Luke's hand and asked. " Whats that?" Luke giggled again. " Your Mom." And right after he said that he burst out laughing and pounded the table. Everybody sighed. Luke always made these kind of jokes. Hadlee slapped Luke in the shoulder playfully and giggled. " Lukeee don't say that you'll get in trouble." She pointed behind her at Mrs. Smith a few meters away from them.
Mrs.Smith Was the most hated teacher of all of the teachers in the school. Students called her the vulture. She looked like a vulture, a long neck teeth that looked like a beak, her hair was red, and her voice was scratchy and evil. And she was Luke's homeroom teacher. Every time Luke did something to make people laugh she would always send him to the office. And because of that She was mean to Eric as well. She handed home work everyday even on Fridays.
Tests every other day, and worst of all. Her glare. Anyone who talked out of turn she would glare at them. Or if you had a bad grade in the class, you got the glare. Her eyes would squint so much that it looked like they were shut, and her face would get all wrinkly. And she would only call people by their last names.
Everybody stopped looking at Mrs.Smith when she caught them staring at her and she gave them the glare. " Anyway," said Noah, " without the immature jokes from you know who, anyone got some ideas?"
"Well," said Eric which had been quiet for most of the time, the people who were sitting by him jumped, " we could meet at the library down by the pool." Nods of approval.
" Teen section." Said Derek. " At the table." Breana continued. Derek and Breana looked at locked eyes. Then after a long awkward moment, they broke eye contact and Derek shifted uncomfortably in his seat. Everyone knew that they have liked each other for a long time two years to be precise. But neither of them admitted it.
Now, to the table. The table was where teenagers sat. The cool ones. Though last year, those teenagers graduated from high school so the table was abandoned. And the table then waited for another group of teens for them to claim it.
"All right let's meet there first thing tomorrow morning." Hadlee said. " The first day of vacation! YASS!!" Breana said. Everybody cheered and right after they looked to see if Mrs.Smith was looking at them and sure enough she was. And they immediately silenced themselves.
Suddenly the bell rang indicating that it was time to go home! Shocked by how fast their lunch was, the group quickly ate their food and dumped their treys and got ready to go home for summer vacation! The group ran through the halls and up the stairs over to their lockers. Quickly, the gathered all of the stuff that was remaining in their lockers. And ran back down the halls and down the stairs to the front doors, where racing there and mobbing the doorways. Some people whooping, some cheering, some laughing, some little kids crying! The group raced down the rest of the steps to join the mob of kids.
"Hahhahahha!!" laughed Luke with a grin. Slowly, but surely, they pushed through the mob of kids. And finally, they emerged through the doors and our in the bright, warm outside. They gathered around each other, and looked at themselves.
But something was not right. Everyone was there except Eric. Luke searched the group of friends for him. But he wasn't there. Noah turned his head to the mob of kids inside. Where Eric was waving at them, struggled to get through. Luke couldn't help himself but laugh at him, covering his face so no one would notice.
There were encouraging things said to Eric but it was very doubtful He heard them over the crowd. Behind the group of friends, the schools buses pulled up behind them in the drive way waiting for the kids to arrive, making the people in the crowd push harder to get outside. After few minutes of struggle the kids burst out of the doors and then sprinted over to the buses one by one.
Most of the kids had dispersed from the doors, and the last few people were pouring out from the school doors. And among them, was Eric. Grinning like a wild man. The group dashed to him, and checked if he was OK. " Just a few bruises, but other wise I'm OK." Eric said.
" All right remember to meet tomorrow at the Library." Noah reminded. Breana nodded and said, " OK see you guys tomorrow."
They said their goodbyes and they separated. Eric and Luke walked together side by side each other over to their bus.
And nobody was aware of what was to come next.
