I pressed my teeth into her neck. The choices he laid before me made it clear. Kill one, save a thousand. That is what I must do.
I had her in my arms as my incisors slid out and pierced her skin. The fangs broke her main vein with little trouble. The blood came and it's oh so sweet taste filled my mouth. I moaned at the taste. Something about blood was too satisfying that the want no, the need to have more over came me.
I was barely putting her head down as my voice croaked out a request for more. "More, I must have more." Her delicious blood stained my lips and chin. Her lifeless dull eyes stared into blackness as I faced the vampire.
He didn't move much before I felt Hanir's hand on my forearm. His mouth was stained red too. A kid was a vampire and probably afraid of what was before him and I'm more concerned with having more blood than actually trying to help him. Helping was always in my nature when it came to those who could not help themselves yet here I was.. With little to show for it as I feel my glutton inside rising. The bitter sweet taste of blood is what I crave for.
No words were spoken about my moment of clarification. My clouded selfish hunger wiped the quenching liquid from my mind.
I could think much clearer now. "The sun will rise in an hour or two." The vampire said as he lifts a shovel and stabs it's blade into the earth. "You both need to return inside before it even slightly brightens out here. You're not as susceptible to the light but it will burn enough." The dirt crumbles from his shovel. His elegance in shovelling marvelled me. He was clearly the only one that part takes in this job. "The sanctuary has a two parallel pillars along a path."
Hanir pulls me just as I try to think of a response. We are fumbling forward to get back to the entrance that leads to Sanctuary. In our frenzy of confusion we managed to get lost for a little while but eventually stumbled back onto familiar ground. I could feel the familiarity of the trees formation. These were the trees me and Hanir passed as we were first entering the forest. We were on point now but we only had a little while before the sun would be coming back up. Hanir seems to know this as well.
We break into a run but as we run scenery blur past us until we see the pillars marking the path to the archway that'll lead into the sanctuary. It's a crypt with moss covering up along its sides with vines winding and twisting their way around its base. We slow down as we step onto the path which laid between the pillars. The Stars fading from the night sky.
"Hanir, can you believe what our minds are able to see clearly now?" I can see most things that I've been too blind to notice before. "As he had said, a whole new world has opened up for us."
Besides the yearning for blood and the extra talents I am completely still myself and I promise myself to never forget my ways.
Together, Hanir and I take a breath before seeking shelture inside the crypt. The overgrowth sits unbothered as we duck under hanging moss.
