Chapter Six

Sitting quietly in my spot, I dropped my gaze to my lap, where my hands sat nervously, as my dad went to get the front door.

The last time I had seen Della I practically threw a fit, when I overheard her conversation with my dad, and I'm not going to lie, although while part of me wasn't so accepting of my dad and her relationship, the other part of me was nervous that after the last time I met her, she wouldn't like me.

Hearing the sound of hushed voices, and footsteps approaching, I slowly brought my gaze up to land upon my dad and Della. My dad gave Della a reassuring smile, when Della noticed my presence, and squeezed her hand that was intertwined with his.

"Hi Della," I spoke softly, my eyes meeting hers.

Startled, at mostly likely the fact that I was addressing her directly, she smiled, "Hello Corrine," She replied quickly. Smiling softly at the use of my full name, I let a small chuckle escape my lips, and quickly covered my mouth with my hand. A look of complete confusion crossed Della's face upon my laughter, which only brought more giggles to my lips. Della looked up at my dad quickly, only to noticed he was on the verge of laughter as well. "Did I do something wrong?" She finally muttered.

Both me and my dad shook our heads quickly, "You didn't do anything..." My dad reassured her.

Sighing lightly, Della stared back and forth between me and my dad, most likely thinking over what she had done a moment before that brought on our giggles.

After watching her worry for too long, I finally calmed my self down, and gave Della a smile, "I don't go by Corinne," I explained quickly, "I'm only called that when I'm in trouble," I told her a smile spread across my lips.

Della's mouth formed an 'o' shape as she took in what I was telling her, "You don't like being called Corinne?" She wondered.

I shook my head quickly, "No, I like Corey," I told her with a smile. Nodding softly, I instantly noticed the curiosity in her eyes on my nickname,  "The nickname is from my dad, he gave it to me a long time ago." I explained,  "My mom used to hate it, scolding my dad for not calling me by my birth name,  but it only made me love it that much more, and it stuck, now that is all I'm known by...well, unless I'm in trouble, then I'm Corinne." I told her.

Della gave me a genuine smile, "Thank you for telling me that Corey," She spoke, and I watched as my dad squeezed her hand once more.

"No problem," I told her quickly, waving it off as if it was nothing, while in reality, it took a lot in me to actually build up the courage to tell her. "I'm going to let you guys have some alone time. I'll be upstairs if you need me," I told them both.

"You don't have to," Della spoke quickly, her eyes set directly at me, "I mean, I would like to get to know you more," She told me honestly.

I smiled at her, "It's okay, we have time for that, but right now, you obviously came over thinking you two could have some alone time, so that is what I am going to give you." I said with a smile.

Noticing a blush creep to Della's cheek, I smiled at my dad and sent him a wink as before quickly mouthing 'No funny business' before turning and quickly jogging up the steps to my room.

Shutting the door softly behind myself, I jumped onto my bed, and sighed. That had gone way better than I had planned it to, and for that, I was thankful.

Rolling to my side after a few minutes of silence, I pulled open the drawer of my night stand, and pulled out one of my many sketch pads, and a few pencils, both charcoal and colored ones. Propping myself up with a few pillows, I relaxed into my bed, and let my hand work away on the blank paper before me.

Switching periodically, between pencils of different strengths, I made sure to add each detail to perfection.

After quite some time working with charcoal pencils, I finally picked up the colored ones, and began adding color to my piece.

With a final touch of blue, I let the pencil drop from my hand, and held my sketch book away from my body to admire the drawing of a smiling Wolfy.

Smiling lightly, I sighed my signature on the bottom corner of the page, before I slowly turned to a clean sheet.

Staring at the white before me, I let ideas flow through my mind of things I could draw, ideas constantly hit me, but the one dominant thought that was over powering them all, ending up taking over, and before I could think it over, my hand was off drawing one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen.

After an hour passed, I was adding the finishing touches when a knock hit my door.

Instinctively calling out 'come in' my eyes remained on my drawing as my hand moved quickly making sure every detail was prestige. To the sound of a clearing throat, I dragged my eyes away from my sketch pad, only to land upon my dad and Della.

Giving them both a smile, my dad opened his mouth to say something, but before words came from his lips, Della released his hand and came to my side,  from where she tentatively took a seat beside me on my bed. Watching as her eyes landing on my drawing, I smiled quite largely as she lightly gasped at my work,  "This is amazing Corey," She spoke softly as he eyes continued to roam my work. "What you did here with the blues, worked perfectly, and the whole shape of its self is outstanding," She mumbled, pointing out to me what she was talking about, "Did you draw this from memory or imagination?" She asked me, finally dragging her gaze from my work to meet my face.

Still smiling, I bit softly onto my bottom lip, "Memory actually," I answered, "They are probably the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen. Just the color of them had me captivated the moment I saw them," I told her with a smile.

Della nodded at my response, "A boy?" She wondered. Smiling lightly, I quickly glanced over at my dad who was standing awkwardly where Della left him. Della noticing my gaze, and looked over at my dad, giving him a small smile, "Adam, would you mind starting dinner?" Della asked him, "If we're having pot roast tonight, it needs to cook for at least six hours, so just start cutting the vegetables and I'll be down to help in a little bit," Della told my dad.

Sighing lightly my dad nodded, and turned before leaving my room.

Turning my gaze back to Della, I couldn't help but smile, "You so have my dad whipped!" I laughed.

Della smiled, "Oh no, I'm pretty sure he just didn't want to stay around and listen to you talk about this muse you have for this wonderful art piece," She spoke with a smile.

Sending her a smile quickly, I felt a blush rise to my cheeks,  "He's not my muse," I spoke quickly.

Nodding Della's face clearly showed that she didn't believe me, "Uh-huh, and Jason Cook from Days Of Our Lives isn't an extremely attractive actor," She said rolling her eyes.

Laughing lightly, I met her gaze, "You watch Days Of Our Lives?" I wondered.

Della smiled, and shrugged, "I have every season on DVD," She admitted, "We can have a girls day one of these days, and you can invite a friends, and we can just splurge on watching Jason Cook," She suggested.

With a smile I nodded, "I'd like that," I told her honestly.

"Alright, now stop avoiding it, who is he?" She pushed, extremely curious as to who the blue eyed drawing was of.

Biting the inside of my cheek, I shrugged, "He's no one," I told her quickly.

With a sigh, Della nodded, "Okay, I can see you don't want to talk about it," She mumbled rising from her spot beside me, "I'm gonna go help your dad, we'll talk later okay?" Della promised turning and leaving my room.

Sighing when my door shut behind Della, I closed the cover of my sketch pad on my drawing of Wolfy's blue eyes, and put it back into the drawer of my night stand.

Leaning back onto my bed, I picked up my phone quickly and dialed Mel's number. After a couple rings, Mel answered the phone with a yawn.

"Mel?" I spoke softly confused by her sleepy answer when it was nearly one in the afternoon.

As if just now realizing she was on the phone, Mel screamed, "Corey, I HAVE to talk to you like right now!" She shouted, her voice on the verge of happiness and a bit of panic.

"Okay, enough screaming in my ear, and I'll meet you at the park in twenty, alright?" I told her quickly.

Mel agreed quickly and we both hung up the phone.

Changing quickly out of my pajamas, I threw my hair up into a messy bun on top of my head, and grabbed my car keys off my dresser, before climbing quickly down the stairs, careful not to push my recent injury too much by running.

Entering the kitchen, I smiled to see, Della and my dad messing around throwing bits and pieces of vegetables at each other.

Pausing embarrassed at their childish behavior when they noticed my presence, I could help but laugh, "I'm going to go meet up with Mel for a while, I'll be home around seven, is that alright?" I asked, my gaze set directly at me dad.

With a shrug my dad nodded, "Alright," My dad answered quickly, and as I turned to leave, my dad's voice touched my ears again, "Corey, be home at seven, or we're eating without you," He told me a smile spread across his lips.

Nodding softly, I smiled, and began making my way from them, "No promises dad," I called back as I skipped towards the front door.

"Corey!" My dad called after me.

Smiling lightly, "You know I'm kidding dad, calm down," I called through the hallway as I pulled the front door open. Without waiting for a response I stepped out the door, and shivered as the cold winter air nipped my skin through my jacket. Instinctively pulling my jacket closer to my body, I made my way quickly to my Cobalt, and climbed in.

Turning the heat on instantly, I rubbed my hands along the steering wheel until it wasn't freezing to touch, and made the twenty minute drive to the park roughly halfway between both me and Mel's house.

Pulling into the empty parking lot, I kept the car running so I wouldn't freeze to death, and waited to Mel to arrive.

A couple minutes later when he truck pulled into the parking lot, I shut my car off, and climbed out.

At an unbelievable quick pace, Mel jumped out of her car and came barreling towards me. "I have so much to tell you!" She screamed as her arms wrapped around me.

Laughing lightly, I worked my way out of her grasp, and began walking towards the swing set.

"Corey, it was amazing last night!" Mel sighed as we reached the swings and both climbed on, "He was so romantic, and we took this long walk together, and we had this amazing dinner, and just as he was dropping me off at my house, he kissed me. You know how I thought Bryant was a good kisser last summer, well take my description of that and multiply it by like a thousand!" She explained her voice overflowing with her happiness. I gave her a smile, and she continued, "Well, because my parents were out, I invited him inside..." She said raising her eyebrows suggestively.

Staring at her in disbelief, my mouth slightly parted, I couldn't believe it, "No!" I shouted, "You and Hunter?" I spoke completely shocked.

Realizing what I was implying, Mel blushed, "No, we didn't, you know," She spoke embarrassed. Mel always was one to get embarrassed by her relationships, not that she was a virgin, she just didn't like talking about it. "We just had this really heated make out session in my bedroom, and we got a bit carried away, clothes all over the floor..." She paused blushing again, thinking of the moment, "And we most likely would have gone further, but we heard the garage open, and we panicked," She explained with a shrug.

Laughing lightly I nodded, "Well damn," I mumbled.

"I know right," Mel sighed.

For a while longer we sat in the cold, but after both of our hands were nearly frozen from the cold, we decided to move to my car to heat up, where we continued talking about her relationship with Hunter, and I also told her about my dad's relationship with Della.

When the clock was nearing seven, I sighed, "I got to get going, dinner with my dad and Della," I explained.

Mel sighed, "Mmhkay, but Corey, we are so finding you a guy," She spoke quickly, when I rolled my eyes Mel continued, "Just think about how much fun it would be to double date together," She spoke as she opened the passenger door and climbed out of my car.

Without waiting for a response, she slammed the door shut, and I waited until she was safely in her car before I pulled out of my parking spot and headed towards home.
