Summary:
a teen boy named Seth who dies young (18) and wakes up on the other side in a sort of limbo. he can talk to other beings in limbo but cannot converse with the living.
he watches over his friends and family, unable to intervene too much but sees everything.
he begins to fall in love with his best friend who was a girl named Aria, seeing her react to his passing and honoring him any way that she can. he knew she'd like him but he didn't know it was this much. that she was already in love with him.
years begin to pass in the book and she never stops loving him. she visits his grave and talks to him aloud as much as she can stand.
he watches for decades, seeing how she grows and begins a life with someone else. she tries at first to be single, but she had womanly needs and needed that love she had as a teen. she never has kids with the man, later realizing she doesn't want kids with anyone else but Seth. she is close to marrying this other man but calls it off a few weeks before the wedding feeling guilty. her dead friend tries to intervene but cannot; he wants her happy. not grieving.
she however realizes that she'd rather be single than try anything again. she didn't want anyone to take his place.
the book goes through her entire life with her dead friend unable to move on with his life, and transcend. he is not sure why.
until the day she dies.
he is there, waiting. and they are back in their forms as 18 year olds. that is how she remembers him.
only now, are they able to move on... together.
