Chapter 80

Four of the five great shinobi nations were now one, an alliance put in place immediately after Madara Uchiha declared the start of the Fourth Ninja World War.

The fifth nation, Konoha, was currently without their leader, the Hokage having fled some time prior to the conversation the other four Kage had with Madara.

With Danzo now considered as being untrustworthy, Gaara took it upon himself to inform Konoha's Kakashi Hatake of the news of an alliance.

The Konoha nin who had initially set off in order to stop the execution of Sasuke Uchiha all stood in shock as the pink haired member of the group, who was not meant to be there but left the village to chase after Naruto, spoke up.

Everyone was wide eyed, their jaws just about on the floor.

"Sakura..." Naruto was the most shocked of them all. "What did you say just now? I think I heard you wrong..."

Everyone who was standing around also thought that they heard the girl wrong, but then, with a blush on her face, she repeated the words.

"I said... I love you."

Hearing those words, those magical words, Naruto should have been overjoyed. Sakura, the girl he had had a crush on since his days in the academy, just said she loved him... but something was wrong.

Sakura continued her confession. "There's nothing between me and Sasuke anymore. I don't even know what I was thinking, liking a person like that..."

The surprised expression that Naruto had sported disappeared, his face forming a frown. "A joke like that in this situation isn't funny, Sakura."

He wasn't stupid. He could tell when his teammate was bullshitting. 

Kakashi too knew Sakura was trying to manipulate Naruto. He knew from years of experience raising Usagi that girls were stubborn, and when they had their sight set on a boy it was hard to pull them away. Feelings don't change overnight, and for Sakura who had idolized Sasuke, there was no way she could have woken up and all of a sudden fallen for Naruto. "... Just what happened?" The student's sensei asked.

"Nothing really..." Sakura answered. "I just realized, there's no point in liking someone who's a criminal. I can't be a kid forever, I need to face reality... so Naruto, there's no need to keep that promise. Won't you stop chasing Sasuke?"

She was smiling. A fake smile.

"Sakura, did something happen?" Naruto was genuinely concerned. Though she tried to hide it, he could tell she was in pain. It hurt her to say these words... so why was she saying them? He didn't believe her confession, not one bit.

"Nothing happened!" Sakura defended. "If you wanna know why I started liking you, then I'll say it right now." Taking a step forward, she wrapped her arms around her blonde teammate. "Sasuke keeps getting further and further away from me, but Naruto, you... you've always stayed by my side and encouraged me. I know who you really are now, Naruto... You're the hero who protected our village. The little knucklehead I knew is becoming such an amazing man... yet all Sasuke's done is break my heart. You're right here, Naruto, you make me feel safe. From the bottom of my heart, I really do-"

"Gimme a break, Sakura." Naruto pushed her away. "That jokes not funny." They were all words he had once wanted to hear, words he had only ever dreamed about, and now that they were being said, he knew they were words that should have stayed in his dreams. Some dreams weren't meant to become a reality.

With his frown turning from harsh to sympathetic, his eyes locked onto Sakura's. "I hate people who lie to themselves."

"Are you saying I'm lying to myself?" She did not like that choice of words. "I'm the only one who knows what I'm thinking! If you don't like me then just say so, don't make up excuses!"

"It's just strange! You came all this way to tell me something like that?!"

"... Something like that?! You think it's easy for a girl to confess her feelings?! Of course I'd come all this way! You've always been chasing after Sasuke and putting yourself in danger! I don't want you to go after Sasuke if it means you're putting yourself in danger! I came all this way to take you back to the village with me! I want you to come home!!"

"... That sounds like an excuse to me."

"You don't know anything! I don't care about Sasuke anymore 'cause he's a no good criminal! So forget about your promise to me!"

That promise... the promise to bring Sasuke back, no matter what... it didn't matter to Naruto anymore.

"It's not about the promise." Naruto said. "I know why Sasuke is so obsessed with revenge. He loved his family and his clan, and because he loved them so much he can't let it go... the reason why I'm still chasing Sasuke has nothing to do with my promise to you. I want to help Sasuke."

Acting like a child, Sakura turned around and stormed off. "Fine! I'm leaving! Kiba, Sai, Lee, let's go!"

Sai frowned. "... Sakura."

The sharp glance she gave him told him everything he needed to know.

Sakura had far from given up, and they certainly weren't going home. Sakura would take things into her own hands now.

'I'm sorry, Naruto...'

Once she was far away enough from Naruto, she let her real plan slip. "I'm going to look for Sasuke."

Jumping as fast as she could from branch to branch, Usagi focussed her chakra to her eyes, looking and sensing as best she could for a certain chakra.

She needed to find him, she needed to talk to him.

Usagi knew what Sasuke was doing, and while she didn't want to stop him, she wanted to stop him from doing anything he'd regret.

If Sasuke died, then Team Seven died.

That was something Usagi would not, and could not let happen.

So as she travelled through forests, pushing through her breathlessness and focussing on finding any chakra's around her, she finally found one.

It wasn't Sasuke's chakra, but it was one that would prove to be just as interesting.

AN/ Anybody else hate Sakura here? I really don't like her. Actually, I like her in The Last movie and the Boruto stuff because not gonna lie she's pretty hot as an adult. She finally grew into her forehead XD

Anyway, the moment we've all been waiting for is fast approaching. The demise of a certain old man is coming. 

Usagi is on her way, and I hope you all get quite the shock in the next chapter!! Next chapter is over 2500 words too so more than double the length of this one!

I'll update again tomorrow after school, so look forward to it!
