Elizabeth and Aiden Reimer strolled hand in hand down the beach at sunset. Barely out of their teenaged years, the newlyweds felt somewhat prepared for what life had in store for them. Months of waiting had been torture as they had nowhere to turn to. The people whom they called their parents now wanted nothing to do with them. Elizabeth had been playing the role of “adult” since she was 13 years old because of the loss of her mother. Aiden had six younger siblings who all looked up to him. Nothing ever went right for these people. Except one thing - their undying love for each other.

The moment he laid eyes on her working in the fields at age 16, he knew she was the one for him. Her long blond hair was tied up in a bun and her dress was covered in dust and dirt. Her tanned face had streaks of mud and tears showing that she was crying her pain away. She looked devastated and exhausted from the days work.

Aiden nervously walked over to where she was working and held his hand out to her. She took it sheepishly and he helped her into a standing position. They were about the same height, but Elizabeth still felt like a ragdoll next to the strong boy before her.

“Are you all right, Miss?” questioned Aiden.

She shook her head as she tried to wipe her dirty face with the back of her hand.

“You needn’t concern yourself over me, Sir. I’m just trying to keep on going with life and this seems to be the only way to do it.”

Aiden resisted the urge to wipe away her tears with his own fingers. Even in the heat of the day, her stained face was indeed the most beautiful he’d ever seen.

“I’d like to help in any way I can.”

She shook her head again.

“Please just let me finish my work so I can go home.”

He tipped his tattered hat towards her and said, “I’m here to help, Miss. Don’t be afraid to come to me. I won’t hurt you.”

She nodded and knelt down to her work as he walked away. After a few moments…

“Wait!”

He turned and said “yes?”

“What’s your name?”

His eyes lit up as he answered her.

“I’m Aiden B. Reimer, Miss.”

“I’m Elizabeth Royal.”

“Pleasure.” He tipped his hat once again, and sauntered down the field, feeling like he’d just encountered an angel. A beautiful angel named Elizabeth Royal.
