‘Damn!’,I cursed under my breath as I accidently slip and all my books fell onto the ground. I crouched and started to pick them up.
‘Jeez,it’s freezing out here!’i shuddered and tried to find my gloves in my backpack. It wasn’t snowing but it wasn’t a walking-outside weather anyway. It had been three months since I moved to America to take part in an internship program. I’ve always dreamed about living in here, the main reason was because I was growing up in Malaysia-----a tropical country far away from here. We didn’t have four seasons, the weather was always hot----well, it was actually freaking-hot and humid over the whole year, so I was always dreaming about living in a four-seasons country like this.
I still remember the first day I landed at the airport,it was snowing. Everything was covered in snow when I looked out of the window from the plane, I was so amazed by the beautiful view that I had to cover my mouth with my hand to stop myself from screaming out like a little girl.
‘There you are!’I fumbled out my gloves from my backpack and put them on. I stared at the glittering snow around me as I rubbed my hands together for warmth. Although I had been living here for months, but I was still amazed by the snow view, especially in the night ,it seemed there was something magical about it.
I dusted myself off as I glanced at my watch, it was almost 12 now, if my mom found out that I was still roaming around on the streets in this late, she would probably drag me back to Malaysia immediately. But I wasn’t doing anything bad anyway, I was just collecting my books from the bookstore(another thing I loved about this lovely country, most of the bookstores here wont close at 10!).
I picked up my books and continued my way back to my rented house, it wasn’t really that big but it was more than enough for a girl who lived alone.
Suddenly, I felt something fall onto my beanie,I held my books with one hand while the other reached up to take off the beanie. Snow. I glanced up at the tree besides me and frowned.
Ain’t no wind.
I shrugged, maybe that was a squirrel. But then when I was about to walk away,I heard something crack above me.
A twig fell down, then a bough started to broke off. I tried to withdraw myself from under the tree but I can’t move my legs.
‘Wind!’,I heard someone yelling above from the tree. Then I felt an invisible force pushed me back as the bough fell down and crashed in front of me.
I fell into the snow, gaping.
What just happened? Who was that?
Puzzled, I sucked in a breath and looked around. No one was here. Whose voice was that? My heart sunk when I saw my books were all spreading around me in the damp snow.
Great.
I pulled myself up from the snow clumsily and started to pick up the books from the snow again. Suddenly I felt a waft of cold air wrapped around me. It felt chilly but it made me feel safe somehow.
