PROLOGUE

‘The court is adjourned’ said the judge and stood up.

‘What the hell? It didn’t even begin’ shouted Katherine.

‘Mind your tongue, miss’ said a guard behind her.

‘Mind your business and that’d be to keep your mouth shut’ snapped Katherine flipping her hair.

‘Hey Katherine, wait up’ shouted a stranger from behind her.

Katherine turned and saw a man she’d seen before inside the courtroom.

She eyed him nervously as he approached her.

‘Move aside’ said the man.

‘What the……’ said Katherine surprised at his casual behavior.

‘Hey, I am Robert Rivers’ said the man.

‘So what?’ asked Katherine.

‘Well, I will be your new Attorney as the last one fled away.’

Katherine raised an eyebrow and kept quiet, analyzing his physical features.

‘Oh, I almost forgot here’s my bio-data’ said the man handing her a red file.

‘You did talk to my dad, didn’t you?’ asked Katherine gritting.

‘Yes, and he said that you prefer bio-data’s for conversational interview’ said Robert.

‘Expected response. Well, let’s fix an interview for tomorrow, 7pm’ said Katherine.

‘Nope, have another appointment. How about 9?’ asked Robert.

‘That’s very late, I’ve other things to deal with than waste my entire day over an interview’ said Katherine annoyed.

‘I work late miss and better make yourself free’ said Robert smiling flirtatiously.

‘Whatever’ said Katherine walking away.

‘Kathy, sweet heart we know you’re tensed and worried, but……we’re working for your peace so please try to cooperate’ said her step-mum.

‘Oh really? All the time I’m being accused of a crime and here you are, doing absolutely nothing in my favor’ said Katherine angrily.

‘We’re trying our best’ shouted her step-mom.

‘Oh stop raving like fools’ said Katherine.

She hated her step-mom, she was her dad’s ex girlfriend and he had abandoned her mum for this lady. After many years of mental breakdowns her mom finally died.

Katherine was four when her mom had died.

Her dad had married her just because she was pregnant with his child. But after around two months of their marriage, he couldn’t bear her anymore, and later divorced her.

Dejected, her mom left and went to stay at her mom’s place. After a month Katherine was born and seeing Katherine’s face the memories of her ex-husband flowed back to her and it led to mental breakdown and eventually was admitted in the asylum.
