Chapter 3
When they walked in he put her stuff down by the front door. He walked into the kitchen and started to dig through the refrigerator. She grabbed some clothes out of her bag and asked for the bathroom. When she got to the bathroom she changed and just stared at herself in the mirror. What was it that this mystery girl had that she didn't? Was she tall? Was she prettier? Did she look like him with the piercings and the dark hair? What was it? She envied that girl. She was jealous of that girl. She wanted to be that girl. She still did not realize she was that girl. She played with her hair a bit and made sure that her make-up looked okay. Finally, she walked out of the bathroom.
"You hungry?"
"No. I'm fine. I had a salad for lunch."
"Oh, do you mean the salad that you picked at and barely even ate?"
"That would be the one. And I ate over half of it thank you very much." He walked back into the living room with a tub of ice cream and two spoons. Obviously he did not hear what she said about the salad. He looked at her and motioned to follow him upstairs. Carefully and slowly she walked up the stairs. When they reached his room she paused at the door. He sat down on his bed and stared at her.
"Are you just going to stand outside the door and watch me eat or are you going to join me so I can help you with your algebra?"
She was confused at his tone. She still didn't understand why she was annoyed. He was beginning to make her mad.
"You seem upset about something. Maybe I will call someone to come pick me up. We could do this some other time. It isn't that big of a deal anyway." She turned around and started to walk down the stairs. She went to her bag and pulled out her cell phone. All of a sudden she heard a guitar being played. It peeked her curiosity. What made her more curious was the beautiful voice that accompanied it. She walked back up the stairs and to Aiden's room. He was sitting on his bed playing 'Thunder', the song they heard in the car. She just stared at him and he stared back as he sung to her. Then it hit her. The girl he liked was her. How could she be so stupid?
He ended the song and she was still standing there in shock. She couldn't believe how stupid she had been. Now she understood why he was getting frustrated with her. How could she have been so blind to it all? She had been jealous of herself. How idiotic and childish!
"Are you glad that I told you?" he asked. He saw the expression on her face. He stood up and walked towards her. He stopped a few inches away from her.
"How dumb did I seem? Did I sound as dumb as I seemed?" was all she could manage to get out.
"You didn't seem dumb...just a little...it just took you a while to get it. You didn't answer my question. Are you glad that I told you?" He truly was curious to know her response. She was looking up at him with tears in her eyes. She couldn't speak. There was a lump in her throat. All she could do was nod and even that took great effort. He looked into her eyes and he knew everything she was thinking. All he could do was smile at her. He pushed her bangs out of her face and as soon as he touched her, a tear fell. She was looking down and biting her lip. Then he put his finger under her chin and forced her to look at him. She felt so stupid. She was embarrassed at the way she had acted earlier at lunch. She still didn't understand how she didn't know it was her. Looking back at it now it seemed so obvious that it was her. Her team mates even knew...but she didn't. What a genius I am she thought to herself.
"Do you feel the same way about me?"
She was still trying to get herself together. When she finally got a grip she looked directly into his eyes. At first she couldn't say anything because she was hypnotized by him. Finally she broke the gaze and looked at the guitar. She walked away from him and tuned it a bit. She sat down on the bed and began to play 'Your Call' by Second Hand Serenade.
