A tall, straight backed woman strides out from the shadows, straight towards where I'm plonked down. She looks to be around her mid fifties and is wearing a long, flowing, crimson robe that pooled at her ankles.
"Care to let my student in?" She asks, a little louder than before. I look up at her, trying to figure out what she meant. What student?
She gestures to the door and I scramble to my feet, taking a few steps away from it. As I brush my midnight hair out of my brown eyes, she reaches for the handle.
"You might not want to..." She turns to give me a reassuring smile, then turns the knob. A earth shattering howl is heard and the creature bounds in, causing the door to vanish from sight. It takes a few tentative steps towards me, then pivots to face the woman, settling at her feet and looking up, as if asking for-
"You may." She says, as if answering it. The creature then gets up, and takes a few steps, It's features becoming more...human like with each step. Before I know it, a girl, with tanned skin and waist length, dark brown hair with reddish tints, stands where it stood. She wears a black singlet top and tights, and strangely enough, barefoot. Her bright yellow orbs scan me slowly, before making eye contact and giving a warm smile. I give a nervous smile back, even though I have no idea what just happened.
"My name's Annais, Annais Charm." She holds out her hand, and I take in a quick, brisk handshake, moving back immediately after. "Nice to meet you Mireya." My eyes widen.
"How do you know my name?"
"I told her." The red clad woman steps forward. "I'm Professor Kendra." She introduces. "I suppose you would want to know why I've brought you here?" I nod.
"Well, believe it or not, you're now standing in a different world. One which might take some getting used to. You see, you are no longer in your home dimension."
"Dimension?" I mumble. What's going on?
"It's what you should call...humans?" Annais looks at me for confirmation, and I nod.
"You are in a place where the legends of your people are created." Kendra continues.
"So what... the loch ness monster lives here?" I poke.
"Loch Ness?" Annais gives me a confused look.
"Never mind"
"Have you ever heard of stories in which faeries and angels fly? In which sirens and elves roam?"
"Yeeeaaah," I wonder where this is going. "I grew out of those fairy tales long ago."
"Have you ever wondered where these stories spring from?"
"From ancient civilizations who thought different animals were 'mythical beings'." I emphasized the last two words by making quotation marks in the air with my fingers.
"Do you have any proof that the animals they were observing were not 'mythical beings'?" She copies my hand movements around the same two words, all while a warm smile is plastered onto her face. That left me stumped. I know for sure that that's where all our stories and legends came from, but who's to say they weren't butterflies and birds. What if they were actual faeries and angels?
"No...we don't" I say slowly.
"Well, of those many tales I'm sure you humans have, many of them aren't your pure imagination."
"So your saying mythical creatures do exist?" I understand what she's saying, just working on believing it.
"I'm saying they are living, breathing people, and you're where they come from." She waves to Annais, who's moved to the chair, playing with her nails...or claws.
"Annais here is an Afera. Very similar to what you may call a werewolf, except she may turn into her animal at anytime she feels like it." Annais' cheeks flush red, obviously embarrassed from the use of her as an example.
"So you chose to scare the heck out of me by turning into a wolf and chasing me through the woods?!" I exclaim.
She holds up a finger, "Ok, First, I'm not a wolf, I'm a coyote. Second, I didn't choose to scare you, I was just directing you to the portal using an aggressive manner."
"And why did you bring me here anyways?" I turn back to the Professor.
"You see...Once a child of magical blood turns thirteen, they have to attend some form of education, one of which includes Ouranio High."
"That's where I'm going." Annais chirps in.
"And I'm assistant principal." Kendra continues. "and that's where you'll be going."
"WHOA whoa whoa." I wave my hands out infront of me "Yeah I turned thirteen recently, but I don't have magical blood."
"But you do." The Afera jumps in, "That's why Professor sent me after you."
"You see Mireya, Magical blood is passed on through generations after generations, the gene may slip a few. In your case, one of your ancestors would have had magical blood, but It's been long since the gene has surfaced, and you have that gene."
"So I'm part faerie or something?" I ask...both intrigued and shocked by the news.
"Yes and no." Professor answers. "It's been so long since we've had anyone from your bloodline here that we can't really track what species."
"Ok...How'd you know I'm magical?"
"The gene itself isn't really hard to track." She smirks. "You'll start tomorrow, along with Annais and all the other first grades-"
"Wait!" I stop her. "I can't just leave my dimension and go to some magic school. People will notice I'm missing! And what will my parents say?"
"Time works differently here, sometimes it may be faster than your world, sometimes it may be slower. Indeed you will be missing out on things on your side, so this may help." She hands me a necklace with a crest shaped pendant. "Put it on every time you go to bed. If you are in your dimension, it will take you here and vice versa. You'll find that time will allow you to be in both dimensions without losing out on anything."
"That's our school crest!" Annais points out, as I examine the pendant.
"And as for your parents, they don't need to know everything do they?" Professor Kendra says with a smile. "You better leave now...Annais will meet you tomorrow for the opening ceremony." I nod. It's all a little much to take in, but I'll get my head around it soon. She waves her hand, and I'm blinded by a flood of light.
My eyes flutter open to reveal the ceiling of a building. Sitting up, I become aware of someone sitting next to me.
"You okay?" Ms Corey asks.
"What happened?" I say, dazed.
"The kids came running back saying that there was some monster in the woods and after a head count, we realized you weren't there, so after a while and you still hadn't come back, we went looking for you and found you passed out just off the track, so I took you here and the rest of the kids have gone back home." She explains.
"oh."
"Well, the nurses said there was nothing wrong and that when you woke up, after a check up, you should be ready to head home. Your parents are downstairs waiting." She pauses, then says, "I should get the nurse." and vacates the room, leaving me alone.
Lying back down, I mutter,"It was all probably a wild dream." to myself. Then my hand brushes something in my pocket and my eyes widen as I pull the chain out.
"Nope...definitely not a dream."
