I slowly open my eyes, finding myself on a ice cold floor. I blink a couple of times, waiting for my vision to become enough clear to tell where I am. I'm in the middle of what it looks like an empty abandoned hospital's waiting room. As I explore around me with my eyes, I can see a corridor's lights turning on and off over and over again.
"Come to me" a creepy whisper says from the dark empty corridor.
This is that part in a Horror movie where people should run away, I follow the voice instead. Of course.
"You're almost there" another whisper, I feel cold shivers running down my spine.
I keep walking through the dark corridor. The only light is a soft light coming from one of the rooms. I decide to follow, not sure I'm 100% willing to though. If that's a thing James taught me is that I should never listen to my heart, but, well, that would mean not being with him either. So, it's almost like a double edged sword.
All I can see from now on is a body laying on one of those cold, white hospital beds. I slowly walk towards it and loudly gasp at the vision. That body is James'.
I start sweating, shaking him over and over again trying to make him wake up, but there's no use. He's basically been dead all the time I've known him but not this dead.
A tiny man slowly walks closer with an evil smile, I stare at him.
"What did you do to him?" I yell with tears in my eyes,
"Nothing he didn't do before. I killed just for the pleasure of doing so"
"You're a monster" I yell again pushing him.
"You've never thought the same about him though, have you?" he asks, I stare at him, feeling sour tears rolling down my cheeks.
"He's not a monster" I firmly say, he laughs.
"Oh, sweety. If I'm a monster, then he is too"
"NO" I yell one more time as I quickly turn to James' body again and hold his ice cold hand. A loud soft leaves my throat as I gently kiss his cold forehead.
"You had no right to do this" I whisper, crying.
"Well, Sasha, it sorta depends on the point of view" he says, I quickly stare at him,
"How did you call me? Who are you?"
"I'm your worst nightmare came to life, isn't it wonderful? As long as he's alive, I'm alive too"
"Well, he's dead you dumbass. Because of you" I madly say,
"Guess that means I'm dead too then" he smirks as he suddenly cuts off his arm with a chainsaw, I stare at him, letting his blood cover my face and clothes.
"Now, let him burn" he smirks, lighting James' body on fire,
"NO!" I yell jumping on it, as I quickly start burning too.
I quickly open my eyes again, my breath has never been this heavy, I'm totally sweating and tumbling.
"Hey, hey. I got you, I'm here" a familiar voice whispers, I stare at him without saying a word.
20 seconds and I suddenly hug him the tighter I can, sobbing against his shoulder. His smell is all around me now, my soul feels a lot calmer already.
"I thought I lost you" I cry,
"I'm right here, it was just a nightmare" he whispers in my ear again, I weakly nod and glance up at him.
"Better?" he asks, I take a careful look at him.
He looks like he just woke up, messy hair softly fall down on his forehead and ears. His sleepy eyes still blink a couple of times to adapt on the light that's now in the room. He looks nervous though, like his chest is moving faster than usual. I've must scared him by waking up like that, which makes me feel a lot guilty and miserable.
"I'm, I'm sorry if I woke you up like that" I whisper looking down,
"And I'm glad you allowed me to stay" he softly smiles.
"Is there something that would make you feel better, ma'am?" he sweetly asks, reaching the room's mirror and fixing his hair.
"I like the messy hair" I suddenly say, causing him to turn to me with a soft chuckle.
"That's not manly. A man should always have sober hair"
"That made any sense" I smile, he smiles back.
"I'm kinda hungry, what time is it?" I ask rubbing my eyes,
"3am, I assume"
"It's the right time for a McDonald's take away" I excitely say, he stares at me raising an eyebrow.
"What's a McD-"
"Oh my" I gasp, "You should totally get something too!" I add with a big smile, he just stares at me in confusion.
"I know one not too far from here, 5 minutes walking, that stays open all night" I excitely say, I can see him frowning.
"What" I ask in disappointment,
"I can't leave the Hotel" he just says with a hurt tone.
"What do you mean by you can't leave the Hotel? You've done it plently of times before. When you came to my College's project's exam, when you took me to that hill for the Candles' night, and when you came visiting me in my dorm" I ask in confusion, not fully understanding what he meant by those words.
"I know, it was against the rules. I've been punished for all that, but I didn't mind"
"Wait, you- you've been punished because of me?" I ask in shock,
"I said I didn't mind" he calmly says looking right into my eyes.
"Why have you broken those rules then?"
"Ma'am, it's as clear as water"
"Uhm, I, it really isn't for me. I'm not really getting it" I say, feeling stupid. Even more than when I had to attend those College classes in which everyone seemed to be better and smarter than me.
"I'm a rule breaker, you should've got it by now" he smiles, "Even though I've never broken this one before, for anyone else"
"So why have you this time? What's so special about me?"
"Miss Sasha, you have a strong soul. I've always been told I was able to understand and get people by looking into their soul, and when I tried with you the very first day I got nothing, total blankness. I was so delighted I've had finally found someone with a soul like yours, I've been waiting for all my life, literally. And you came back to me the following day, asking for being my assistent"
"Okay, so, take away" I laugh, he raises his eyebrow in confusion.
"It means that you call their number and they bring your food where you are" I softly smile as I can see him widening his eyes.
"Do they do that?" he asks in shock,
"Yeah, doesn't it sound great?" I laugh, he keeps staring, probably trying to decodificate the new info I'm giving him. He's from the 1920s, and sometimes, it almost feels like talking to a baby. Not in a bad way of course. He discovers new things everyday, and he's really fast in absorbing every new thing he sees and hears.
