"Olivia.."
I'm still laying on the couch from when I fell asleep last night when I vaguely hear someone mumbling my name. I recognize the voice as a deep male voice that sounds very familiar. I roll over and face the direction the voice came from and groggily open my eyes. Once I realize who is standing in front of me, I bolt off the couch and give him a giant jump hug, wrapping my legs tightly around his waist.
"CORY! I missed you so much!"
Cory chuckles and sits on the couch with me now in his lap.
"I missed you too baby."
I look him up and down and notice some differences about him from the last time I saw him. For starters, he got a bit taller, but the two most noticeable differences are the black streaks in his normally all sandy brown hair and the small silver lip piercing on his bottom lip. Needless to say, he pulls it off quite well.
"You look a bit different."
"Yeah I know, do you like it?"
"I do, but why Cory?"
"Why what?"
"Why'd you suddenly just change your appearance so drastically?"
"You like punk rock guys better."
"So you changed for me?"
"Yeah. Is there a problem with it?"
"Um actually yeah there is. First of all, what gave you the suspicion that I like punk rock guys better?"
"Braden and I have been talking more. He messaged me last night and told me that he probably lost you as a friend because he fucked up. He told me about the punk rock kid you were talking to at Hot Topic."
"Well yeah, he was the cashier. You kind of have to talk to them."
"He also seemed to think for some reason that he might've given you a ride home."
"Yeah he did because I told Braden to leave me alone."
"Okay. So do you like me better now?"
"No I don't actually. I don't know how I feel right now but all I know is you shouldn't have changed just to try to make me happier. That irritates me. I was happy with the Cory you were before."
"Okay well I don't really know what to say but I'm sorry, I guess."
"Mhm. So how do you like the foster home?"
"I love it. They're really nice and I can pretty much do whatever I want to. I get along really well with all of the other kids and its a really great distraction to keep me from thinking about my Dad."
"Good for you. Sorry...I don't know where that came from."
"It's fine. So I was thinking that since I'm most likely gonna be getting adopted and it's like 5 hours away and you clearly aren't even thrilled with the fact that I drove 5 hours to get here in someone else's dirty piece of crap car and I dyed my hair and got my lip pierced all to impress you and you don't even appreciate it then maybe we should take a break."
"Is that what you want?"
"Yeah, I think it is."
"It's not that I'm not thrilled to see you because I am. I really am, but I just wasn't expecting it, that's all. I'm glad you and Braden are talking more. Maybe the three of us can hang out and do something fun together."
"Olivia, don't avoid the subject of us taking a break."
"Okay Cory. If that's what you want, whatever. I don't even care anymore."
"You're kidding me right?"
"It's what you want. You want a break from me so...just go. I didn't think I was that terrible to be around, but apparently I'm wrong. You clearly drove all this way just to inform me that you want to take a break from me. I want to make it work out between us but if you don't want to be with me anymore then it's probably not going to work. It takes two people to have a successful and happy relationship, Cory. I don't even know why you suddenly want to take a break, like yeah I'm upset that you changed for me but the Cory that I know would find a way to get around it and make it work."
"Olivia, I..."
"Am I wrong?"
"No."
"So there is another reason then?"
"Yes. I'm sorry Olivia, I still love you and I always will I promise. I am so sorry."
"Cory..."
"I'm sorry. I didn't want it to happen. I went to a party with some of the kids living at the house with me and I was drinking and it just happened."
"That doesn't just happen."
"Oh for fucks sake, how would you know Olivia? You've lived a perfect life ever since the day you were born!"
I look at Cory with a totally shocked expression on my face. If anyone knows that my life growing up wasn't the easiest, then it should be Cory. He knows more about me than anybody. How dare he say that?
"I want you to leave. I don't want to see you anymore. Leave."
"I'm sorry...I didn't mean it."
"It still hurt. You can't take the words back. You need to leave. I'll have Sandy bring you the rest of your stuff another day. Okay?"
Cory steps forward to hug me but before he reaches me, I step back and head back up the stairs to my bedroom.
"Don't touch me."
"Babe...let's make it work out."
"No! For fucks sake, can't you take a hint Cory?! You're not wanted here anymore! Go away and live at your perfect new house."
"I was right about you all along. I tried to deny it the whole time, but I was so right."
"What the fuck are you talking about?"
"You are just the stuck up, preppy snob everyone says you are. You're little Ms. Popular and that's who you'll always be."
"Get out of this house and never come back. I swear to god I'll call Sandy and have her drag you out if I have to. Fucking leave."
"K. Fine, I deserve it. I'll always be here if you need someone though. Just know that."
"Mhm."
"I love you Olivia."
"Goodbye Cory."
