"I hate this school with everything in me. This cafeteria is fucking disgusting and these kids are twice as bad." Elias thought to himself. The cafeteria had about 400 kids that day most of the tables full except one in the very back of the cafeteria; that's where Elias sat. A short girl with a pale face and long brown hair looked around the cafeteria as she pulled her sleeves over her fist. Her eyes landed on the emptiest table there was and that was with Elias. Slowly she walked over to it setting her things down as she sat right in front of him. "You don't mind if I sit here do you?" She asked quietly looking around. Elias lifted his head from his phone trying to study her face. He sighed quietly and speaking under his breath he said, "you must be new. The people you wanna be sitting with are over there." He pointed his finger at a group of kids looking over at them laughing. The girl turned her head over to them staring for a bit before turning her attention back to Elias, "and why do you say that. They look like preps." He took out his earbuds sitting up. "They are, but those are the people that will get you fit in. They'll like you." He began to put his earbuds back in turning his attention back to his phone; the girl stays quiet with a look of confusion on her face. "I'm fine—I like to stand out—if I wanted to sit with them I would" she rolled her eyes as she shut them inhaling a deep breath. Elias turned off his music and spoke quietly, a bit annoyed, "and why do you wanna sit with me." She grinned softly studying his face "you look gnarly." The bell dismissing lunch rang. Elias grabbed his bag and made his way to his next class.
Elias walks into the art room sitting where he was assigned, in the back of the class, alone. "Gnarly." He whispered to himself; soon his attention turning to the teacher as she asked the class to settle down. Mrs. Ramirez brought attention to the short girl he had met in the cafeteria minutes earlier. "Class, this is Uri. She is a new student that will be studying art with us." Mrs.Ramirez introduced. "Uri, you can sit wherever you'd like as long as it isn't taken." Uri made her way to the back sitting right next to Elias giving him a smile. Mrs.Ramirez went on with the day explaining the lesson, his attention moving to uri. "You don't look like the type of girl that would say gnarly" he said quietly. "I don't get to say it often, but you seemed to fit the description" she whispered back to him as she pulled out a notebook "you know I use to draw guys who looked like you, wanna see?" Elias nodded his head as she opened the notebook. The drawings had plump lips, a little past shoulder length hair, sharp jawlines, but her drawings had a kick to it; the eyes were rolled back and had dark circles. The earlobes were droopy and the person looked lifeless. Uri flipped the page–it had no drawings but it had writing. Her handwriting was small and neat, you couldn't see any mistakes. It filled the whole page, of course she quickly flipped it. "You write?" Elias asked her quietly looking at the next drawing that showed. Uri ignored his question and slowly closed the notebook letting out a small sigh.
