"ETHAN ANTHONY UNDERWOOD! GET UP NOW!"
No no no. This can't be happening. This cannot be the first day of school. I shouldn't have slept so late reading novels last night. I quickly pressed the soft pillow onto my face as I tried to suffocate myself. The "divider", which honestly was just a translucent grey curtain, was pulled noisily to the side as my mother entered my part of the room. You see our house is gigantic but our parents thought it would be so damn wonderful to demolish the walls of three rooms to connect them together so that my brothers and I could bond. I think we did enough bonding in the past 16 years to drive me mad.
"Elora darling, stop suffocating yourself." Okay, I guess I do have an advantage. Being the only daughter in the family resulted in me being doted on by my parents. But that also meant they were super overprotective of me; as if my brothers were not overprotective enough. I groaned a bit as I stretched from under my thick covers.
The sound of grunting from the other side of the curtain made me a giggle a bit.
"Mom, stop it. I'm up, please leave my room." I think Edward momentarily forgot that we were kind of living in the same room together.
"Oh for nuts sake, Ethan!" I turned my head to the right and burst out laughing. Ethan was trying to annoy Edward by jumping on his body and lying there to go back to sleep. Pushing off the baby blue covers I had, I jumped on top of Ethan and bounced just for the fun of it. Complaints and curses could be heard from the bottom of the human pile. Mom glanced at the clock on Edward's wall and tapped her wrist, indicating that we better come down on time or we will definitely be getting a lecture and made her way out of the room.
I jumped off Ethan and Edward, grabbing my towel and rushing out of the room to the toilet, of course not before I stuck my tongue out to the two dummies. I tend to take my time bathing and getting ready just to annoy my brothers. We kind of only have two toilets in our room so the obvious answer is to share. Humming, I massaged my scalp with my favourite shampoo. I heard my brothers wrestling outside to get into the other toilet first.
I think it's going to be a good day.
I applied the last coating of lip gloss on my pink lips to make it extra glossy for the first day of school and quickly tied my hair into a messy side french braid before putting on my black platform sneakers, matching my tan crotchet sweater and faded blue jeans. Before I could apply anymore make up to hide my insecurities, Ethan wrapped his arms around my waist and carried me to the dining table, ignoring my protests and threats of messing up his perfect hair. I hate my brothers.
The ride to school was peaceful - not! I almost pulled my hair out when Ethan and Edward fought to get the window seats. Everyone knows looking out the window is much less awkward than sitting in the middle and trying to look preoccupied. In the end, I had to sit in the middle because I simply would not and could not risk being late on our first day.
When the school came into view, my eyebrows rose in interest. We used to go to a private school in England but a few disturbing situations happened and we flew back to our home country, America. Unfortunately, mom thought it would be nice for us to mix with teenagers of different backgrounds and not only those who were financially well off. I guess that explains why we were entering the gates of Easton High... in a limousine. Way to go mum! So much for acting like normal teenagers.
Ethan, being the idiot he was, opened the door and jumped out even before we came to a complete stop. Much to my disappointment, his feet landed on the ground swiftly without even losing balance. Groaning, I stomped out of the limo and adjusted the strap of my bag which fell off my shoulder. I don't hate school, I really don't. I just found it really annoying especially with the couples snogging everywhere, I literally mean everywhere, like even on the patch of grass at the entrance of the school. I wouldn't want to mess up my clothes especially with a fashion designer as a mother.
"Alright, just smile and wave boys, smile and wave." I said with a cheeky smile. Ethan and Edward made eye contact with me before we burst out into fits of laughter at the famous quote of our favourite penguin, Skipper.
Instinctively, I linked arms with my brothers as we strutted down the runway- oops I meant hallway.
