/Chapter 1 \ /14 years later\

Late Again

Brooke ran behind the bus screaming, "WAIT FOR MEEEEEE!" but it was too late, the bus was out of hearing and Brooke was anything but a runner so trying to get to the next stop before the bus did was probably less likely than pigs flying. She had to think fast, she could either stay home and pretend she was sick, go home and call her adoptive mother; Mrs Franklin or try and get to school slightly on time by running and walking. It wasn't a very hard decision to make because Brooke was to hot and sticky to walk and Mrs Franklin would chuck a fit if she didn't go to school. So calling Mrs Franklin it was. Brooke made her way back to the house, panting as she went.

When she finally burst through the door, Brooke made a beeline for the phone which she soon remembered wasn't working since Bruno, their new pug, had eaten through the cords. "It's times like these I wished I had a phone," Brooke muttered

Brooke had no choice but to try and run, or more likely walk, to school and hope her teacher, Mr Mine, would be forgiving and sympathetic about her situation. (Not that he did often).

Brooke flung herself at her homeroom door as soon as she saw it. She was 15 minutes late. Dang it she thought.

"Late again Miss Franklin." Mr Mine said accusingly for he was in his normal mood; brutal and mean. In fact he was so mean that he once put a kid in detention for not dotting the i!

"I'm sor..." Brooke began.

"Sorry doesn't cut it," Mr Mine said gruffly, "Just sit down and be quiet."

Brooke was not one to argue, well she was but not with the teacher, so she walked down the isle to her seat and abruptly sat down. Brooke prepared herself for 6 and a half more hours of complete and utter boredom because, in her words, her school was more boring than watching paint dry.

Brooke slumped through the day because a) her school was painstakingly boring and b) her BFFWNEWSE (best friend forever with no exceptions what so ever), Milly was still one holiday in Hawaii. Just thinking about this made Brooke annoyingly jealous because Milly was her friend so she didn't what to be jealous but it wasn't fair that Milly got to spend 2 weeks of school holidays and 1 week of normal school in Hawaii! It just isn't fair!!

Brooke thumped through the door, making both Bruno and her little 4 year old sis Stella jump.
