Part II
Adventure Second Prime and the Final Fight
The next day when Emery got up, the first thing he did was walk over to his desk and take out the goodbye letter that he was writing to the members of his club. He put the letter in the shorts that he was going to put on that day. Then he put on a white t-shirt that had, in large letters, the word “HERO," written on it, black shorts, black shoes, and a black hooded jacket. He picked up his cell phone from his desk, removed the batteries, and then put it in his desk drawer.
“It’s time to head out," Emery said to himself.
“There won’t be anything left of your dream once you confront them,” Emery heard his shadow, Malice.
“This is my decision to face the world," Emery said.
Emery thought about the letter he wrote last night. He’d written it over the course of talking and listening to his friends’ advice. In the end it did not seem like a farewell note but a pledge to become a hero, no matter what may happen to him. I’m not going to let them see this letter after all, Emery thought, I’m going to use the feelings that my friends helped me put into it to beat Orion! Even though I’ll be alone!
“I’m ready," Emery said as he closed his room door.
Emery walked down his street toward the forest at the edge of town. There was a chill in the air as he climbed the hill leading to the forest. It was a tall hill and he couldn’t see over the top. As he got closer to the top, he saw Kiran’s head. He kept walking upward and saw everyone else in the Adventure club as he reached the top. Rina and Derek were sitting down on the sidewalk, looking as if they had been waiting a long time. Emery reluctantly walked toward them. He figured that they weren’t there to see him, so he was going to walk past them.
Kiran shifted to the side, giving a small space for Emery to pass. Emery proceeded to walk through the space without saying a word. He took a step into the space. Kiran reached behind himself and grabbed Emery’s collar. Emery couldn’t move forward as Kiran was holding him back from the side.
“This isn’t what a hero does," Kiran said sternly.
“Kiran, let me go," Emery said with a grim tone.
Emery tried to pull Kiran’s hand from his shirt, like he had done when Kiran was going to stop him from following Darrius. This time he couldn’t pull Kiran from his jacket. Emery turned around and had a very furious expression on his face.
“GET OUT OF HERE!” Emery shouted.
“THEY’RE GOING TO KILL YOU ALL!” Emery screamed furiously.
“NO EMERY! WE’RE GOING TOGETHER!” Kiran shouted angrily yet confidently.
“Yeah!” Grey said confidently.
“We’re not gonna leave you!” Rina sincerely exclaimed.
“Ever!” Jan said loudly.
Ken had a worried expression on his face, because he had understood that only himself and Kiran would be going with Emery. The reason that everyone else was there, was because of Annie who demanded via text for everyone else to show up despite the fact that Emery had told her to stay home. Annie stood saying nothing, but she was smiling and had her hand clasped near her heart. She was happy that Emery wasn’t going to face this challenge on his own. She was going to say something to Emery but …
