Panic. That's the only feeling I have right now. Grabbing a plastic bag I fling open my drawers and grab whatever I can in ten seconds. I sprint to the kitchen. Pushing all the canned food into the same bag until it overflows. I take one last glance to the living room and wish I hadn't. Mom and dad lay dead. The 'things' have killed them. The only chance I have of survival is if I run now.

The adrenalin has kicked in. I get to the door and wrench the knob. It won't budge. I'm stuck.

I start banging the door with my fists. Then charging the door and slamming my shoulder against it. The door Finally gives way. A searing pain shoots through my shoulder. Grabbing my shoulder with my good hand, I run to my back fence. Looking around I think I have to get a weapon. My eyes scan the yard. Locking on the fire pit I stumble towards it. Grabbing a poker I jump my back fence and run. As hard as I can. Just running. I feel like I know where I'm going, but I don't.

Something on the ground catches my foot. I stumble a few feet then land on my face. Stiffly, I get up off the ground and look around. I'm at a station. Everyone is frightened. Pushing and shoving to get to the High Speed Portal System. I'm fairly small so I can dart in between the people.

When I get in side the portal door I feel a wave of relief spread over me. I'm finally safe I think. If only I knew how wrong I was.
