"Hey, dude!" Dean practically screamed to me.
"Sup." I said.
"Did you hear about the new girl?" He asked excitedly. I look at him quizzically
"What new girl?"
"Ill take that as a no..." He said sarcastically. I rolled my eyes.
"No, seriously, what new girl?"
"I dunno much about her," he started
"She moved here from London."
"Doesn't it always rain in London?" I joked. He laughed. It was only funny because it never rains here.
"Yeah I also heard-" he got cut off by the ear screeching sound of the school bell.
"See ya at lunch." He said quite loudly.
I nodded at him in acknowledgement. As I stared my journey to my first class , I began thinking about the new girl, why did she move here? Nobody moves here. People only move away from here. Before I realized it I was standing at the threshold of my biology classroom. I took a deep breath and stepped inside. I look around, and frowned, I was kind of hoping she would be in this class. Oh we'll. I made my way to my desk, which is at the very back of the classroom, where I can't be seen.
"Ooooooka, class's! Everyone pull out your papers on th-" Mr. Harmon's singsong voice was cut of my the door being yanked open.
"Sorry? Sorry! Oh, I'm sorry!" The girl exclaimed " Im new, and I got lost."
"Ah, yes, the new student," He said skimming his papers "Ms. Edwards, very well, ill let you slid this time, because you are new, but don't be late again." She nodded enthusiastically
"Yes, sir." She chirped.
She looked around and took a seat in the front row of desks, in the very middle. Everyone's jaws dropped. No one ever sits in the front row. And no one ever sits in the middle or right side. This is mainly because Mr. Harmon has lost his right eye, so he has a glass one. No one knows how he lost it.
"Spence?" I heard Mr. Harmon say.
"Here?" I said, no really hearing what he said. He class snickered.
"Yes, I know your are here. I was asking you to read your paper."
He said through gritted teeth.
"Oh, um..uh yeah? Oh, yeah! I can totally read my paper...!" I said blushing.
The new girl tuned around in her seat, giving me a smirk, raised her hand high.
"Yes, Jana?" Our teacher asked, confused.
"May I read my paper?" She confidently asked. Mr. Harmon look surprised, and to be honest I was too. I mean, no one ever volunteers to read there paper, and how did she even know to write a paper if is her first day?
After Mr. Harmon recovered from his shock he nodded rigorously.
"Oh yes!" He exclaimed "Yes! Miss Edwards! Yes you may read your paper!" She gathered her papers and made her way to the front of the class- witch wasn't hard, considering she was sitting front and center.
"The human body is a marveling and-" That's all I heard of her paper. You see, the truth is no one ever listens to anyones papers, ever. We just sit back and judge you. No your paper. You. We all do it. Every single one of us. We do it quietly, inside our heads, so no one can hear what were thinking. Most of the time I look at people's pimples, an give them names. But this girl- Lana, she didn't have any. Not one on her flawless skin. She did, however have very pale skin, it looked as though she had never seen the sun a day in her life. And maybe she hadn't, she did live in London. But the thing was her skin wasn't exactly pale, it was just very light. It along very well with her long, wavy black hair. Her dark green eyes, were almost brown, moved across her paper quickly I'm a precise motion. She wasn't very tall, but she wasn't short either. She was very skinny, she looked like she hasn't eaten in days, but she still looked heathy. As she read her paper, she tapped her toe to he ground. A nervous habit, I suppose. And so, when she stopped tapping her toe, her paper came to an end as well. And she looked my dead in the eyes, her lake green eyes meeting my misty grey ones, and I knew this year was going to be different from every other year. Because, this girl was different. She was going to change everything. Everything.
