" Get up!" yelled the man. I stood up slowly putting my hands behind my head. My yellow dress stained with mud and dirt. The fabric became rugged and the edges of my dress was torn. My hair was put down and the man took the crown out of my hair. My father stepped forward. "What is the meaning of this?" he asked. He turned around and looked at us. I yelled just as the man pulled the trigger. My father fell down on the floor. I fell down on the floor crying. My mother fainted and my sisters and brother crowded around her. " You! Boy! Your next!" yelled the man. He grabbed my brother when he refused to move. I held on to my brother's hand until the men pried me off. I looked around hoping this was all a dream. That a knight in shining armour would come to rescue us. I slowly stood up again stumbling on my foot. I glared at the man. " Let us go" I said.
"You would think the grand duchess would know better than that" he laughed. A man came in with ropes. The man pushed me down on the floor and I huddled next to my mother awakened my the noise. " Mother, when the next man comes in, we run " I told her.
" Niet. We wait for someone to help us".
" Mother, why would anyone do such a thing? The palace has been seized, the people are free from our taxes and wages. We no longer control them. Who would be stupid enough as to let us go."
My mother closed her eyes and mumbled a prayer.
"The man came over and held a gun to her head.
" Your god cannot save you. Save your time and we shall end this" the soldier said. My mother continued praying. " You leave me no choice". A gun shot rang through all our ears. The four gunshots confirmed that my sisters and brother has left me. I hid under my mother's dead body.
" Where is the fifth one?" asked someone. The man spotted me and pointed at the body. Just as the man was about to grab me I ran pushing the soldiers away. Stray bullets hit the wall and cursing could be heard throughout the house. I ran wishing it would stop snowing. Someone grabbed be from behind . . .
