Joe's POV
I knew she had heard our conversation but I kept my thoughts to myself. I loved Lottie to the moon and back so I didn't want to see her get hurt. Maybe I should give her some space? I needed to clear my head and take some time for myself. I knew what I had to do.

Lottie's POV
After crying for a while I finally got up and walked into the bathroom to dry my eyes. My make-up was smudged from the night before and my eyes were stained red. I knew what was coming next, 'oh I've found someone else' and the 'can we just be friends?' situation. I knew what I had to do.

I crept down the stairs to find Joe and Zoe sitting in the living room, when Joe suddenly turned to me.

"Lots, there you are, can we have I quick word." He glared over at Zoe, who walked out of the room.
I sat down close to him but avoided eye contact.

"You don't need to tell me. I already know." I said.

"Wait, who told you? Was it Zoe?"

"So you told Zoe before you told me?" I was getting agitated now.

"What are you talking about?" Joe asked, looking innocent.

"Let's get it over with shall we, I never loved you, I've found someone else" I knew I was lying but I wanted him to be hurt and I didn't want to be the one getting dumped.

Joe's POV
"Let's get this over with shall we, I never loved you, I've found someone else." Her words stung. Was she being serious, she was dumping me?

I had to think of something to say back to her. "I'm sorry to hear that, I'm sorry because your new partner has to put up with someone like you"
I didn't mean any of the words I was saying but I couldn't hold them back.

Suddenly she leaned forward and slapped me in the face before running out of the room and out of the front door. I sat in silence talking to myself. Why did she break up with me? Had she really cheated on me?

Then Zoe came running through the door. "Lottie!" She screamed and then stopped and turns to me. "Joe where's Lottie?"
There was silence.
"Did you give her the ring?"

I looked down and saw the blue satin box which contained a promise ring.

"No, she broke up with me" I said, still staring straight ahead.

Zoe's face dropped. "What?"

"I said, she broke up with me." I words brought me back to the real world.
"Joe, I'm so sorry, it just wasn't meant to be but."
I didn't want to listen to anything she had to say, I just wanted to be alone.

Well, I was now.
