I got home from a walk with my older friend. I went into the kitchen and got an apple from the refrigerator. "Mom!" I yell. She should be home now. I hear no reply. Only silence went through my ears. "Mom?" I yell to her again. Nothing. I went upstairs to her room. It was empty. I looked all around the second floor.

"Help!" I hear someone cry. It sounded like my mom.

"Mom?" I yell back.

"Help!" she cries again. It came from the bathroom. I started running to the bathroom. Then I hear a gun shot. I ran as quickly as I can to her. I was at the door frame when I saw her in a puddle of blood. Then I saw him. The man with a gun. I aimed at me and gun. I went behind the wall. He missed me. But the bullet went straight through the wall.

I went back to the door frame and saw him jump out of the window. I went up to the window and saw him join a group of people. They all had masks. Then they started running to a black van, which had no license plate.

I went to my mom, I kept on shaking her. Tears kept on streaming down my face. "Mom! Mom! Wake up!" I cry, still shaking her. No one was home. My dad left us when I was born, I'm an only child. I'm only ten. I don't know what to do. She's the only thing I have. I held onto her. I noticed that she've lost her diamond necklace. The special one I gave to her for her birthday.

I ran to the home phone and dialed 911. "911 what's your emergency?" the operator says.

"Help! Help! My mom has been shot! Help! You need to help now!" I yell.

"Okay, help is on the way. Ma'am, please calm down." The operator says. How am I suppose to calm down when my mom is dead!

"Help! Now! Please, please. She can't die. Please help!" I say weak from crying.

"Ma'am, they're on their way. Please calm down." she says.

"Help!" I cry out. Then I hear them crash through the door. I ran to the railing and cried "Help!" to them. They ran upstairs and into the bathroom. I sat down crying, seeing my mother's body being carried onto the cart thing and downstairs to the ambulance.

Police were in the bathroom looking for clues. Then one policeman came up to me. "Hi, I'm officer Joe. What's your name?" he asks.

"Abrista," I answer.

"How old are you Abrista?" Officer Joe asks.

"Ten," I answer.

"Your mom's going to be just fine. Don't worry. Did you see what happened?" he asks. I didn't wanna repeat the scene inside my head, but it was for a police man. If I tell him, he'll help. By now, I'm just desperate, so desperate that I would even hug him.

"I got home and I called for her. I knew that she was home. But I didn't hear her answer. So I went upstairs to look for her. Then I heard her yell 'help!' and she said it again. I ran to her, and heard a gun shot. When I was there, he tried to shoot me, but I dodged it. Then he jumped out of the window." I tell him with tears streaming down my face.

"Did you see the man?" he asked. I nodded. "What did he look like?"

"He had a mask." I answer.

"Was there anybody else?" Officer Joe asks.

"I saw him outside with a group of people. They all had the same masks. Then they drove off in a van that had no license plate." I tell him. He writes the details down in his notepad.

"Alright, come on. Lets go to the hospital." he says leading me to the ambulance. I just sat there, looking at my moms dead body. If they can save her, that would be a miracle.

We arrived at the hospital. I sat outside of my mom's emergency room. I stared at the doors waiting for the doctor to come out to tell me news. It was about half an hour until the doctor came out. I stood up hoping for good news. He came up to me, shook his head and whispered, "I'm sorry," I hugged him with tears running down my face. They sent me to an orphanage. I was the silent one. I didn't talk to anyone but myself. Wouldn't answer any of the ladies who worked there.
