I. One Shot Story

The sun is shimmering. We both enjoy the beautiful scenery ahead of us. Our hands are intertwined and our cheeks smile with our eyes. We're strolling the beautiful garden plaza, beautiful as much as her. It is a perfect day.

"Babe," I say to her.

"Yes, babe?" The corners of her mouth turn up in expression that shows affection. She likes it when I call her babe.

"My friend invited us to his party on Friday night. So, what do you think?" I utter.

"Oh, OK. We'll be there," She look disappointed thinking I would say something rather than that.

My smile turns into a laugh. She looks so cute, so innocent, and so perfect.

"HAPPY ANNIVERSARY BABE! I LOVE YOU TO THE MOON AND BACK, CARA! ALWAYS!" I kiss her on her rosy soft cheek then hand her a letter with a little box.

She open it and kiss me when she find out what's in the box. A wristwatch which she has been longing for.

"Happy 3rd Anniversary to us, Adam. You don't how much blessed I am to have you at my side. Thanks for being a best friend, brother, and mostly being the best boyfriend! Thank you for being always there for me in my darkest times. I love you to bits, babe!"

We are on our way to the party. Cara decided for us to take a bus for a ride instead of my car. She said taking my car will be just a waste of time since taking a bus would take more time, she like it, she like to be with me for a longer time. Just us two, seizing every moment. This is why I love her so much.

Crowded. The ambiance is full of happiness. Cara is now enjoying the party with our friends. Watching her dance amazes me more. Suddenly, Phil, the birthday-boy, call me and take me into another place where I meet new faces.

"Let's have some fun, Adam! Here's your drink!"

We all toast.

A long talk leads to many glasses of beer. We all get drunk. Someone pulls me and when I turn around I am suddenly stupefied. Someone I do not know is kissing me right now. In shocked, my body is unable to move. It's too late when I get my nerves back.

Cara has seen everything. I've tried to explain, but she ran away so fast and I am left here still in the process of casualness. Stationary and immoveable.

There is a loud crash outside the party that bring me back to life.

Seeing her lifeless lying on the ground makes me wanna punch myself hard.

Why is this happening to us?! Happening to her?!! I never expect the unexpected so I follow the map that leads to her. Reminiscing every happy moment with her. I remember the night we almost broke up.

"Wonder where were you when I was at my darkest. You said you had my back, so where were you?..... Don't worry, Adam. My tears won't blame you. There are just the words my heart use to explain my pain."

"I'm so sorry babe... I was out of my mind. I got lost in translation. I let my jealousy eat my patience and understanding. Please forgive me, Cara. I hate myself for letting you feel this pain. Don't go, stay with me. Please be with me for the rest of my life."

No response on the other line.

"Please, Cara. Will you still love me in the morning?" I was starting to cry probably I was sobbing already. The silence was deafening me.

"Adam... Babe, don't cry. I feel unhappy when you're not alright. Stay with me always, okay?" The silence lasted for few minutes.

"Okay, Cara. I love you so much! Good night, my love."

"I love you to the moon and back, Adam! Sweet dreams."

I drove all the way down to the hospital.

"Where is she?! Damn, where is the fxxking emergency room?!!" I ask the nurse in the desk.

"Hey, hold on!" The nurse is perplexed why I suddenly popped out of nowhere.

I look for Cara everywhere. Every room. I run into an Emergency room and swipe every green curtain I pass by. Then...

"Get ready for 800... clear!... 900... clear!... 1000 volts." The doctor says using the defibrillator while the nurses place their open hands in chest level. She is in danger.

"What happened to her?! What happened to Cara?!!"

Then the paramedics hold me tight bringing me outside from the green curtain but I insist trying to break their hold on me.

"What happened to her?! Just fxxking tell me what happened to her?!!! PLEASE!" I'm begging to them.

The machine sounds without a beat. My heart collapses when I see her lying unconscious. Her face is covered with blood from her head.

For the last time, I see a tear coming from Cara's left eye. Her angelic face with beautiful smiles is now covered with sadness.

The line in the defibrillator screen goes linear and the sound coming from it stop my whole world.

It is now too late to follow the map that leads to her.

I know this story has a sad ending. I am not saying that "happy ever afters" doesn't exist, actually it does and I believe in forever. <3

I am not bitter or loveless, but I just wanted to try something new. :)
