Dark feet that belonged to me appeared and disappeared as the buildings bellow me moved. The colours changed of the rooves I ran across, there was space grey, lilac, red, simple blue and a slightly quirky mahogany. I began paying less attention once the same colours reappeared several times. I focused on returning to the place I had ran from. Home. Our roof was smaller than the others, with an even blander colour, it was uninteresting and unenthusiastic. It was unusual. I performed my practiced routine that had been used almost one hundred times, in a row. I collaborated with the small chain, that was used to hold plants but did not, by holding it and swinging to the unopened window, I delicately placed my dirty, bare feet on the jutted, brick windowsill and easily opened the unlocked glass, I then flung my body inside and onto my small, ruined bed and began to 'fake' sleep. Powhatan instantly entered my room once he heard the commotion. "Pocahontas?" he lamely asked. He walked in closer to my bed and found me sleeping, I could barely see his figure with my squinted eyes. He moved toward the window and brought it down to touch the wood and then a small click was heard by my ears, this was what I believed to be the sound of it being locked. I pretended to be startled by the sound and opened my eyes, compelling them to look dry and tired, making my appearance seem as if I had been sleeping for several hours. He knew this look was not genuine.
"Pocahontas, I know you were awake." He said dryly.
"Sorry Powhatan," I lowered my head, used to his slightly disappointed gaze. " I just had to get out, you know, I have to escape!"
"Pocahontas," he sighed. "Sweetie, you are thirteen you don't need to be so in-"
"Independent, I know." I replied softly. "But everyone has a purpose, and mine is to be free and run with the wind along the highest things in sight!"
He gave me a small smile.
"I forgot how grown up you are." He left my room to leave me to sleep. This time was genuine.
