My heart pounded in my chest as I sprinted past the unfamiliar houses in this unfamiliar neighborhood. My breath came in gasps and I looked over my shoulder. They were still there, chasing me. I quickened my pace.
I didn't mean to stumble upon them. I was just taking a walk to clear my head from all the drama that'd been happening lately. Sure, most teenage girls didn't randomly decide to take walks at three o'clock in the morning, but I had grown up in this small town. I felt safe. Until now.
It was summer. A bunch of new family had just moved to my small, country town in Virginia. Everyone found it strange that so many families just randomly moved here this summer. They were the talk of the town. The new families were rarely seen; they only came out of their part of town to get groceries. After the first few weeks, however, they became old news. Everyone was still curious, though.
I had never seen any of the 'newbies' myself. I had heard all the gossip, but after a while, my curiosity dwindled. Imagine my surprise when i stumbled upon a group of fifteen teenage guys arguing and snarling at each other in the park by my house. The park was small and not many people knew about it. I thought of it as mine. I always went there when my mind was troubled.
When I saw them, I snuck closer. They were all incredibly good-looking and strong. They kept snarling, and even growling at each other. It was all so strange. As they yelled at each other, they began to seem less human and more animistic. Right before my eyes, I watched as one of them got so furious that he began to shake. Then, he was replaced with a wolf.
I gasped in shock. Had that boy really turned into a wolf? That was crazy! I shook my head and rubbed my eyes. But, sure enough, the wolf was still there, baring its teeth at another boy. Suddenly, the rest of the group froze, their noses in the air. I leaned closer, curious.
Then, one of them jerked his head to his right and met my eyes. He looked surprised, then furiois.
"There! It's a human girl!" he spat the word human like a curse word. They all turned their heads to me and growled. Uh, oh.
So that's how I found myself in my current situation. Fifteen big, strong guys running after me, snarls ripping from their throat. I kept running.
Turning sharply, I realized there was no way I could ever out run them. It was like they were playing with me. Teasing me. Deciding what to do with me.
After what felt like an eternity of running, I turned a corner and was trapped. I backed against the wall as the teenage boys surrounded me.
"Hmmm.... now what are we going to do with you, darling?" one asked, smirking. I gulped.
"Jace, don't play with her. Let's just kill her and go back home," another answered. The others shrugged and took a step towards me.
"Guys, stop. We all know we can't kill her," I heard. I sighed in relief. "Well, not here anyway," the voice finished. My eyes widened. Where they really gonna kill me?
"Yeah, Greg's right. Landon will definately want to see her. We should take her back to the House." The House? What were they talking about?
"Erm...what's going on? What are you?" I asked shakily. They all laughed.
"Landon'll kill her fast if she's stupid. We should save him the trouble."
"Jace, shut up!" the one called Greg told him. Then, he tunred to me and stepped closer.
"Isn't it obvious? You saw Roger shift. We're shifters. Though you'd be more familiar with the word werewolf."
"Werewolves? You're werewolves?" I gasped. These boys were insane, but he was right. I did see that guy change into a wolf. Oh my gosh.
"Yup," Greg answered. Then, I fainted.

I woke up in a huge bed. My eyebrows knitted together as I took in the room. It was pained a light mint green and the furniture was white. It was a quaint little room, but how did I get here? The last thing I remembered were those boys. Those werewolf boys.
I shot up in the bed. I had to get out of there, quick. But jabbs of pain shot through my skull. My hands grasped my forehead as I fell back in the bed.
"Whoa, now. Don't get up too fast. You're head must be killing you," a voice stated. I peeked through my fingers to see the face that belonged to the soothing voice. I gasped and placed my hands back over my face.
The guy was beautiful, in a manly way. His dark brown hair was tousled and fell in his face. Dark, forest green eyes shone with a fierceness I'd never seen before. He was tall and lean, with well-defined muscles showing through his tight black muscle shirt. He was gorgeous. And I probably looked like crap. I heard him chuckle and my stomach flipped.
Warm hands grabbed my wrists gently and pulled them off my head. I didn't meet his eyes.
"Look at me," he demanded huskily. I peeked up at him through my eyelashes. His eyes met mine for a long moment. Then he sighed, sitting on the edge of the bed.
"You hit your head when you fainted, but you're fine other than that. Here's some medicine you can take to make it feel better. Take it and then get some more sleep." He handed me a pill and glass of water.
"Do you really expect me to take that? I don't know you. For all I know, you could be some freak that wants me drugged!" I said, trying to hand the pill back.
He glared at me for a moment, his eyes hard. He looked scary. Like a vengeful god on a rampage. But he quickly recovered, closing his eyes and sighing. When he opened them again, his eyes were softer and a smile played at his lips.
"Look at the pill. It's an Ibuprofen. And I swear this is water, not poison or alcohol or anything. See?" He put the glass to his lips and took a sip. Well, if he drank it then it couldn't be poisonous, right? I looked at the pill in my hand and noticed that it really was only Ibuprofen. He was right.
I placed the pill in my mouth and took a sip of water. The guy smiled at me and placed the glass on the night stand. "Now, get some more sleep." He got up.
"Wait," I called out. He stopped and looked at me questioningly.
"What's your name?" I asked softly. He laughed.
"Landon. You?"
"Lana," I answered. He smiled.
"Sweet dreams, Lana," Landon told me, grinning. He turned to the door.
"Wait," I called out again. He turned to me and cocked his head to the side.
"Yes?" he asked.
"Will you tell me what's going on and stuff in the morning?"
"Well, actually it's already morning. But I promise I'll answer all your questions when you wake up." He told me. I gave him a small smile. He nodded and walked to the door.
"Wait," I called once again as he turn the door knob.
"What now, Lana?" Landon asked, turning around to look at me.
"W-will you stay with me?" I asked real quietly, blushing a little. I didn't know where I was or why I was here, but for some reason, Landon didn't scare me. I felt safe. And I definitely didn't want to be alone. What if that Jace boy came by? He probably still wanted me dead.
Landon sighed and closed the door, but he smiled all the same.
"Of course."
He grabbed a book from the bookshelf and settled down into the rocking chair beside the bed. He smiled at me again before opening the book.
"'Night, Landon," I muttered, settling back down under the covers. My eyes closed instanly.
I heard him chuckle. "Sweet dreams, Lana."
I drifted off into a dreamless sleep.
