It seemed that every weekend went by quickly, as Mel tried to fit in as many things as possible. This particular weekend, she had nothing planned. It was a boring Saturday and all she wanted to do was get drunk and have sex with someone. It had been a while. The last person was her boyfriend, and they broke up almost five months ago. She just needed company and happiness.

Mel groaned as she lay on her sofa, her feet propped up on the arm. She was so bored…and lonely. She decided to call Seth, her best friend. Hopefully he wouldn’t have plans on a Saturday night.

“Hey, Mel, what’s up?” The deep voice came from the other end.

“Hey, Seth, are you busy?” She asked, tapping her toes together.

“I’m not, actually.” He replied with a small laugh. His laugh was so unique.

“Would you like to come over and share some pizza and alcohol?” She suggested.

“Sure. I’ll be right over.” He said.

“See you in a few.” She replied, then hung up.

She took advantage of the short time that it would take Seth to get there to clean her apartment, not that Seth cared. She remembered that she decided to wear her sexy underwear today, which boosted her confidence. With a huge grin on her face, she checked her freezer for her favorite bottle of vodka. For good measures, she took a quick shot and cringed at the raw alcohol flavor. She got out the Sprite from her fridge and set it out on the table next to the vodka. Just in case, she had two cases of beer waiting in the fridge. She stood on her tiptoes and looked at her reflection in the window. It was already dark outside.

A knock on the door a few minutes later made Mel get up from the sofa, which she occupied once more. She skipped over and opened the door. She was greeted by Seth in sweatpants, glasses, and a little bit of scruff. She almost made a pleased noise before she stopped herself and stepped aside to let him inside. She loved the fact that Seth felt comfortable around her, as did she with him, and didn’t try to impress her or anything. They were best friends, and nothing was going to change that. She shut the door and noticed him eyeing the vodka on the table.

“There’s beer in the fridge, too.” She told him. He nodded, curling his lips inwardly.

“So…” He trailed off, his voice cracking.

“What brought this up?” He asked, leaning his back into the edge of the counter.

She tilted her head to the side and sauntered over to grab a drink shaker and to the freezer for some ice. She popped in a few cubes and grabbed the vodka and Sprite. She poured them in and gave them a quick shake, then poured the mix into two glasses. Seth watched as she made the drinks. Little did she know, Mel was racing through his head all night. He was sat alone in his apartment, watching whatever shit was on TV. Then, the phone call came, and Seth thought he was dreaming. He had missed her so much. Also, she had mentioned pizza and alcohol. How much better could it get?

Seth took the glass she handed him and took a sip of the cold alcohol. He needed this.

“I’ll order the pizza.” She said.

“You can go make yourself comfortable.” She added with a joking wink, which wasn’t much of a joke to either of them.

He relaxed on the couch as Mel paced the kitchen, the phone to her ear. He sipped his drink and rested his head back. She was so polite and nice when she talked on the phone with strangers, it was kind of adorable. Seth loved the sweet side of Mel, the one that came so naturally. When it was just them, though, he saw that naughtier version of her, that dark side. The side that got drunk, made dirty jokes, and teased the fuck out of him. He didn’t know if she did it on purpose or he was really that crazy about her, but everything she said and did triggered something in his brain. Being around her just made him happy.
